Zareen and Hareem had completely opposite views there..and that thread was just one aspect. I have seen Hareem01’s posts for quite a long time to come to this opinion.
Meanwhile Zareen is b/w moderate and conservative in the sense that she has some very straightforward views and she sticks by them. (am remotely like that too…esp when it comes to nationalism :p)
And none of this should be taken seriously or personally :halo:
^ that’s a widely accepted definition and I didn’t dig through different web dictionaries to find it. I found them all under one web dictionary. If you feel it’s biased, go ahead and post your own.
Liberal and conservatives are two sides os the same coin. Both want what is best for society and approach it from different angles.
In the recent past, conservative has become synonimous with right wing, and liberal has become a dirty word (at least in the west).
What used to be a liberal position is now an extremist ideology, wht used to be moderate is now left, what used to be conservative is now moderate, and what used to be right wing extremist ideology has now become conservative.
Everything has shifted to the right.
Examples of liberals - Arundhato Roy, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Bernie Sanders, Howard Dean, Paul Krugman
Example of conservatives: Rush Limbaugh, Savage (of the savage nation), Sean Hannity, Bill O Reilly, Dick Cheney, Rumsfeld, Newt Gingrich
Example of moderate - Joe Scarborough, David Gregory, Wolf Blitzer
So in current cliamte, the only ones who make any sense are liberals. One can give similar examples from each country.
^ No question about it - one can be religious/spirituall etc and still be liberal, just as one can be an athiest and still be a liberal.
The definition Theorist gave - liberal - open to change (for the betterment of society at large) is the best. As an example, civil rights (60s protests) was mainly a liberal movement.
here is something some smartyass person said… which further reinforces my point…that its all in the head of the person classifying others in these categories…
**“”
It’s All in My Head
Lacking any kind of visual face-to-face cues, the human mind will assign characteristics and traits to a “person” in interactions on the internet. Reading another person’s message may insert imagined images of what a person looks like or sounds like into the mind, and mentally assigns an identity to these things. The mind will associate traits to a user according to our own desires, needs, and wishes – traits that the real person might not actually have.“”**
Exactly it’s like ..if I go to a gaon where women are supposed to stay at home and when they go outside they should be clad in an abaya/veil/burqa, wearing a trouser and full sleeved knee length shirt with a hijab..i would still be ‘liberal and maadurn’ in their opinion. So yes it varies from person to person.
Some examples of liberal vs moderate vs conservative
Recent Iraq war -
hardcore liberals were against it - maybe < 10% of population
moderates and conservatives were for it
Recycling where it is not mandatory
Liberals recycle - not because the law says so, but because it is for the greater good
Moderates - can go either way
Conservatives (by modern day definition- tea party types - mock liberals as tree huggers
Driving gas guzzlers:
Liberals will be responsible - try to maximize fuel efficiency
Moderates: could go either way - cant be too bothered
Conservatives (modern day definiton) - will drive SUVs, HUMVs - believe God has given them these resources to use. will do what is convenient, and to defend their position, mock science and question it - will want 100% proof global warming tied to greenhouse gases
Katrina disaster
Liberals were outraged at the treatment of blacks
Moderates - TV - portrated some blacks “looting” - that is getting bare minimum supplies in the aftermath of disaster
conservatives - mocked the blacks - stating they were not intelligent enough to heed warnings and vacate the area - essentially deserved what they got.
Liberal - will use resources as needed - wont waste
Moderate - could go either way
Conservative - will water their lawn, insist everyone keeps their lawn fully green, put up festival lights 2 months before and literally light up the sky
Yes, this is one person’s perspective “or where I am in the liberal to conservative scale”
I consider myself a liberal, but I’ll accept that inyour examples, I’m a TOTAL CONSERVATIVE.
I don’t give a damn about trees or about recycling and if I could, I’d drive a Bugati (2 Miles par Galleon according to Yahoo). Anyways, Gas Guzzlers are cool
However, I still say that in view of my liberal views on MOST THINGS, especially Religion and Culture, I’d be classified as a liberal.
your points are valid …but they are not at all related to this thread…because the thread discusses ‘desis’…what you mentioned is discussion about socio-political climate of USA…where the terms have more significance in political terms…
