Libel in fiction

I just happened to finish Moon lit cage…after reading several reviews that compared it to Thousand splendid suns.

the story revolves around an afghani girl in 19th century. In the book it was mentioned that she wasnt allowed to read or recite Koran, indicating that only men or boys were allowed to read which left me wondering if this is true? I mean i just cant comprehend that any muslim can think that …they might object on fairer sex going to mosques or being taught by a male but not being allowed to touch or hold Koran? is beyond my comprehension.

and if it is just fiction…isnt it like spreading false info about a country or a religion? and if it is cant anything be done about it?

Ps. according to the book it was a cultural thing, not an action of an individual.

Re: Libel in fiction

That's something you can easily look up and check for yourself.

Generally though, fiction doesn't require veracity.

Re: Libel in fiction

There are many movies which shows negative roles of muslims but at the end these are just fiction stories.
