LHC directs President Zardari to suspend political activities

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday ruled that President Asif Ali Zardari should suspend political activities, DawnNews reported.

Television reports stated that a four member bench of the LHC issued a detailed 35-page verdict in the dual office case and stated that the President should be impartial.

Earlier in March, the court had reserved its verdict in the dual office petition against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman and President Asif Ali Zardari.

The petition had been filed by A.K. Dogar. It had stated that the constitution required the president being head of the state to maintain a neutral and non-partisan posture.

It had further stated that Zardari being the PPP co-chairperson served party interests along with being the president which was in direct violation of the constitution. The petitioner had also said that holding two offices was a violation of Article 41 (1) of the constitution and had requested the court to take appropriate action on the matter.

My Comments: I believe this is a good judgement as the President should be a unity of the nation as the constitution states. Potentially this will lead to President Zardari having to either giving up as President of the PPP or Pakistan.

I am sorry to say but there is nothing in our constitution - which could Stop your president from taking part in politics ..

If president of Pakistan is member of political party or is chairman of some political party then how can he be the be the president of Pakistan because, then he would be looking forward to safe-guard the interest of his party only.. that is the reason presidency and governors in Pakistan normally are not member of any political party.. but current PPP party can do whatever facilitate their mission to bring Pakistan down... so it doesn't matter to them what any court would say... they would not spend a dime in development of the country or their political base ( Larkana) but would demonstrate and use people's blood and money to shout at any thing they don't like...

As for PPP supporters, yes it is unforgivable sin to talk against PPP leadership...

Governor Sindh was member of MQM and now officially he is not MEMBER of Any political party

Farooq Laghari was member of PPP when elected president, he officially resigned from the PPP

Ghulam Ishaq Khan was never a official member of any political party

Rafiq Tarrar, although nominated by PML-N, when elected president of Pakistan, never had official status and list goes on

but like i said, for PPP jiyalas, it is ok, their Leader can rape anyone all they will say, ya mr. x also did it so no big deal... what a sorry state of mind these jiyalas have

I asked about partial or impartial.
Was Tarer,Laghari,Ghulam Ishaq impartial or is Ishrat impartial?
Question was simple.
Ia there something in constitution about president on issue of party membership?
Perhaps no.
Actually you never think of rest of Pakistan.
Why you never ask about decision of Showbaz eligibility case ?
Because he is from Lahore.

Isn't it the same LHC who ordered judicail murder of ZAB? I don't understand why LHC is gainst people of Sindh? What if high courts of other provinces also give decisions against leaders of Punjab? Is their any limit of decency in these madir pidar aazad judges of LHC?

All of Pakistan's democratically elected civilian Presidents over the last 40 years from Fazal Elahi Chaudhury to Rafiq Tarrar did not hold any political party position whilst in office.

Only Military Dictators Zia and Musharraf played politics whilst also holding the Presidential office, so those are the only examples that the PPP can fall back onto use historical justification for their argument.

Question is very simple?
Is there any law against it.
The word impartial never says that he should not be from any party or having any post.
There was no impartial president in the history of Pakistan and so Zardari is.
PPP has much better people for the both slots but .......
I am surprised to know about their decision.
They can keep it pending like Shahbaz Eligibility Case.

It appears that President Zardari will abide by LHC judgement and cease political activities in the Presidency at least.

The past justifies the present? It's only blind supporters like you who are putting down this landmark ruling. I for one would love to see the implementation of this verdict, as do all sane Pakistanis. Unfortunately as is the case with all past court rulings, this one will probably be ignored by PPP as well.
