LG DVD/CD-Recoder

Lately I bought a DVD/CD-Recorder from LG. It writes CD´s with a max. speed of 48x and it should burn blank DVD´s with a max. speed of 16x.

So the problem is, that when I go to Nero and want to burn a DVD it only shows me a speed of 2,4x while when I want to burn a CD it shows me the correct speed.

I updated the Firmware but still no change and when I try to set the DVD/CD-Recorder to Slave it shows me a error message like this:

Please insert system disk…blablablab…

anyone has a advise/solution?

thanks in advance…

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

common problem.

enable Ultra DMA for IDE.

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

how?

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

For Windows XP, Direct Memory Access is not set for individual Hard Drives and CD Rom Drives. Instead, DMA is set for the Primary IDE Channel and the Secondary IDE Channel. In short, each Channel allows us to have two devices connected for a total of four devices. These devices can be a combination of Hard Disk Drives, CD Rom Drives, CDRW Drives, DVD Drives and Tape Backup Drives etc. Therefore, if both channels are set for DMA access, then all the devices in your system will be set to use DMA.

For Windows XP
Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.

Then click on Settings, then Control Panel.

Then double click on the System icon to open up the System Properties window.

Now click on the Hardware tab located at the top of the screen.

Then click on the Device Manager button in the center area of the screen.

Now click on the plus sign +] next to the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to expand that section.

Then double click on the Primary IDE Channel to display the Primary IDE Properties window.

Then click on the Advanced Settings Tab at the top of the screen.

Now for Device 0, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is set to DMA if available.

Then for Device 1, ensure that the Transfer Mode: selection is also set to DMA if available.

Then click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen to save your settings.

Then double click on the Secondary IDE Channel to display the Secondary IDE Properties window.

Then close Device Manager and the Control Panel to return back to your Windows session.

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

all is done...still nothing...

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

Either use RiData or Taiyo Yuden Discs and then let me know, also try burning the media with different software

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

What is the model number and what version of firmware are you using?

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

model GSA-4167B. Firmware Version D12 (latest)

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

Primary IDE Channel > Device 0 > Transfer Mode > Ultra DMA Mode - 3
Primary IDE Channel > Device 1 > Transfer Mode > Multiword - DMA Mode - 2

Secondary IDE Channel > Device 0 > Transfer Mode > Ultra DMA Mode - 1
Secondary IDE Channel > Device 1 > Transfer Mode > not adaptable

maybe this is the key to my problem? and how is the solution if this is the problem?

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

Check your recordable media. If your recordable media support only 2X speeds, your 16X burner cannot burn it at 16X. I am not sure, if 16X DVD media is readily available in the market or not.

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

You are using a Double Layer DVD which only supports upto 2,4x burn speed. Nero only shows the max speed of the recordable media you are using, No need to update Firmware or DMA settings, just buy some DVD media with better speed (8x or 16x)

WitchDr, Verbatim (<< link) offers upto 16x recordable medium. A 25 DVD+R Spindel costs 17,99 € where I live.

EDIT: Verbatim also offers DVD+R DL with 6x burn speed

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

Yaar listen:

As I mentioned in my first post I don´t need to insert a blank CD into the drive when I want to check the max. speed of my CD-Burner. BUT, when I want to check the max. speed of my DVD-Burner without having any blank DVD inserted it will only show me 2,4x.

Also I mentioned the

Secondary IDE Channel > Device 1 > Transfer Mode > not adaptable

is this one making a problem?

Re: LG DVD/CD-Recoder

Bhai meray, you are making your life difficult just for nothing. I get the same with out having any disk inserted in the DVD-Burner. Its the default settings of Nero and have nothing to do with firmware or DMA settings.

But if you still want to make sure whats your burners max speed is, start nero, go to File > Preferences > Expert Features and hit the Restore Button. Nero will shut down automatically. Now remove any disks from the drive and start Nero, press Ctrl+R or goto Recorder > Choose Recorder. Now click on your Burner from the list, It will shows you Maximum CD Speed your burner supports. Click on OK. Now Insert any DVD recordable medium in your drive (I recommend 16x) wait until the light on your recorder stop blinking. Now **press Ctrl+R **again, Instead of Maximum CD Speed Nero should now show you the Maximum Speed of the medium you inserted in the drive.

DMA settings are also dependant on the connecting cable type. Swap the slaves of both channels and see what it says.

EDIT:

Goto your system BIOS and change the Boot Sequence Settings.

good luck!
