I was thinking of applying for the British Chevening Scholarship that is for 1-year of post-graduate studies in the UK. As part of the requirements, they have asked for letters of recommendation-one from the employer and one from the business school’s faculty where i have studied.
I was just wondering if I can have an idea on what really to include in such letters, prolly a template with some of the essentials that just need to be there…baaqi masala to fill kia ja sakta hai.
I could give you ideas, but for you to get the complete picture I think it would be best for you to really search the net on google and the websites of the top grad schools in the US [you can get listings from usnews.com] and search for 'letters of recommendation' on their websites. I just did that and came up with a lot of useful websites.
It depends on what the scholarship is for and what qualities they seek in the candidate. Leadership skills? Scientific expertise? ...something else? The letter of recommendation would have to be written keeping that in mind.
Ofcourse, general things like your work ethic, personal motivation, diligence/dedication at job, work discipline etc should be mentioned. Any strong characteristics in your personality that are more noticeable. Any major awards or achievements perhaps. The contribution you made to those institutions and how this scholarship will make a contribution to your future plans and how you will contribute to the institution you are applying.
...Stuff like that...
Also, isn't there someone in the Karachi British Council that offers advice on these issues? Maybe they could add some more insight into this.
Best of luck and I'll check this thread again so do post back if you have any questions.
BTW, you might know already but I thought I’d mention anyway that they also have a website and maybe browsing that would give you additional tips http://www.chevening.com/
Hmmm...If they haven't given you a letter or aplication which you have to give to the person writing the recommendation then I think there isn't a strict format. From what I remember, a letter on the top of which is a heading of your name would be good. It doesn't have to be written as if it is addressed to someone. So yours would be kind of a letter [more like a statement about you] with the heading of your name on the top. Hope that makes sense. You might find more templates when you do the net searches.
Oh, I forgot to add last time, they would have to mention in the first paragraph probably the capacity[ies] they have known you in and the duration they have known you for.
