Let's talk breakfast and snacks

So not happening over here. He loves multigrain Cheerios and that is ALL he will ever have for breakfast. Once in a while, I’ll make him pancakes, waffles or French toast just to get some eggs and fruits into him but those times are few and far between. I don’t really want him eating cereal all the time so I’m wondering what y’all give your toddlers and preschoolers? What else can I try?

I would also love some snack suggestions. I try to pack fruits, mini yogurts, raisins, granola, and bagels but it’s hit and miss with those. Are there any snacks your kids absolutely love?

Thank you!

Strudels?

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

Those are just pure sugar, no?

I think those are pop tarts. Strudel is not too healthy, but not unhealthy either.

Ok ok, I am saying that because I love them

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

Breakfast - my daughter eats sooji made in butter and sweetened with honey for breakfast. also sometimes simple butter sandwich , omelette and pooris on the weekend (that’s her fav).

Snacks - she takes fruits (bananas and grapes) sandwiches , nuggets , home made cake , noodles , cucumber etc. she doesn’t like dry fruits otherwise almonds (4-5) are a very good option.

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

My daughter is a super picky eater. And when she does eat she takes ages to finish her food. Will get off her chair and walk around the whole house, dance, do gymnastics … basically anything to avoid sitting at the table and finish her food.

I try to change it up for her. I feel that if she has a proper breakfast she’ll eat well at lunch and dinner too. So for breakfast she likes pancakes, waffles, hash browns with yogurt on the side. A glass of orange juice. Peanut butter jelly sandwiches. Peanut butter banana sandwiches (or I’ll just put it on pancakes). Absolute favorite cereal for life is Cinnamon toast crunch. She also likes scrambled eggs.

Snack time is usually fruits and veggies. Strawberries, grapes, carrots, melon pieces, pears etc. She likes crackers and hummus too so if we have that she’ll eat it. Corn tortillas and salsa is another fave.

Oooh and gogurts!!! Yogurt on the go. She is crazy about that stuff

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

Cheesy omelettes/scrambled eggs are a big hit as is french toast.
We have phases of jam on toast, oatmeal (sweetened with honey and cinnamon), toaster waffles (usually when we’re in a rush), pancakes, etc.

Snacks: any fruit, yogurt (Greek yogurt is particularly popular), cheese sticks, banana bread, nuts, dried fruits, crackers and cheese, etc.

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

Ah thanks guys!! Lots of great ideas!

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

Breakfast and other meals etc for my 4 year old are pretty consistent. She is a picky eater and doesn’t wanna explore outside the things she likes. With her what I have noticed is that making anything ‘fun’ makes it easier for her to like it.For example, she wont eat a whole piece of french toast as is,but if I cut it into thin strips, she will eat the whole thing. She wont eat a toast with her fried egg in the morning, but if I cut it up into fun shapes like stars, moon, flowers (I use cookie cutters),she will eat the whole thing.Similarly a paratha roll is more liked than a paratha cut into bite size pieces.
I have had a difficult eater…:hmmm:

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

Omg Chips6 my son is same…
I.have to use cookie.cutters to feed him.pancakes parathas n sandwiches etc lol

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

I actually bought an assortment of cookie cutters just for this purpose.I have never used them once to bake a batch of cookies…

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

Now there’s a thought! He has suddenly started eating scrambled eggs which I’m so happy about! I’m gonna try the shapes next. You guys are the best.

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

My parents always offered us fruit/eggs/toast/yogurt at breakfast. Anything boxed such an cereal was a big no no; so thats pretty much I give my kids too in the mornings.

Some of our favourite snacks for home and on the go are, I try very very hard to give them everything homemade, so I completely stay away from any canned meats/veggies/fruits with the exception of cheese/chocolate spread or ice cream for smoothies

Grilled cheese
Cheese sticks
Greek Yogurt
Fruit (Pineapple chunks, apples, berries, pears, bananas)
Puff pastry with mince filing (chicken or beef)
Popcorn chicken bites
Veggies (cucumber sticks, carrots, cherry tomatoes)
Sweet potato frites or baked
Banana/mango smoothies
Nutella sandwiches
Chocolate chip cookies with coconut
Homemade potato salad
Mini meat kebabs
Chicken salad in croissants

Re: Let’s talk breakfast and snacks

Some really informative stuff here!

How old is your daughter? do you harden the sooji or keep it like a thick/thin paste?

Do you fry the poori like the usual one or you keep it low fat somehow?
