Actually, my dadi had a step mother (her father re-married when his first wife passed away), and my dadi really talks about her as if she was her real mother. She says that she was very kind, and treated the first wife's children as if they were her own. So not all step-mothers are zalim....but Im sure there are some who are zalim!

I know of two, and both amazing to their step daughters and sons.

step-moms have a bad rep for being "zalim" but not all of them are. I think children not accepting step moms and hating them leads to a lot of people seeing them as evil, but I'm sure there are some that are mean and others who are nice

I knew one she is not alive anymore but she was really cruel to her step children.
On the other hand one of my dad's cousin have a step mom , she loved him like her own . Now his kids are nearly my age but she still treats him like a son.
There are all kinds of people in this world.

my MIL is a step-mom to my husband (his mom passed away when he was 2) and she has been really good to him and his 2 elder siblings (who call her 'aunty' because they were 10 and 12 when their mom died and couldnt say her 'ammi' but my husband calls her 'ammi' because he says she is the only mom figure he's ever seen)

Sometimes its not just the stepmothers who are evil and nasty....I know one woman whose tried her best to treat her stepchildren with love and respect but they treat her like garbage b/c their mother raised them that way.
