I think it’s good to know a little history and learn about the lives and efforts of people who have made a significant impact in the world of computers and information technology, the fruits of which you and I enjoy on a daily basis.
SO we will pick a person and share something we know/have read about that person. After a while, we can move on to someone else. Please do not cut/paste articles or links. It’s more fun reading what you write.
He actually has a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
In 1994, while driving from Seattle to New York, right across the country, he wrote up his business plan for Amazon.com (wonder how he did that tho…voice recorded it? Wrote it during breaks? Need to find out)
He started his company from his garage! Then they moved on to a 2 bedroom home with 3 Sun Microstations and developed a test site. He got 300 buddies to beta test the site, and in 1995, opened Amazon.com

-He is also the person to unveil the Kindlefire tablet - he called it the iPad killer (and now I know who to blame for Southie uncle’s confusing posts!)

Excellent thread Niks , this way we can learn more about people in IT. :k:
Sharing some of his quotes…
*A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person. You earn reputation by trying to do hard things well.

*If you do build a great experience, customers tell each other about that. Word of mouth is very powerful.

*There are two ways to extend a business. Take inventory of what you’re good at and extend out from your skills. Or determine what your customers need and work backward, even if it requires learning new skills. Kindle is an example of working backward.

^^ I agree with all 3 statements above. Very well said and true. (Not that I’m a business critic, but I AM a satisfied patron.)
He lives in my city , close to Bill Gates’ home. I need to attend one of his public lectures. I think talks by such folks are very motivating. He’s also funding an aerospace company called Blue Origin. Don’t know much about that though…except that one of their unmanned spacecrafts blew up on a test flight.
Re: Let's talk about the people who have impacted the world of C & IT
^Agreed with you , such talks from IT people are always helpful . Whenever, there are talks held at my uni by famous IT companies such as IBM, Microsoft,Cap Gemini etc I try my best to attend their lectures.
Let's talk about the person** who invented the computer**.
Charles Babbage
You know, Charles Babbage? Born in 1791, died in 1871? Who attempted to build something called a “Difference Engine” during the first half of the nineteenth-century, a kind of mechanical calculator designed to compute various sets of numbers? Some argue that he, not Turing or Zuse, is the true father of the modern computer.

Bluetooth is named for Tenth
Century Danish king Harald
Blåtand, known in English as
Harold Bluetooth Gromson, who is
reputed to have been so fond of
blueberries that his teeth were
stained blue.
It was named this as the king was
most known for his unification of
two warring tribes from Denmark
and Norway. So, just as King
Bluetooth connected these two
previously warring tribes so does
the Bluetooth technology with two
electronic devices
