**ok folks, u’ve waited long enuf…now, its the time to reveal the correct anwers.

one thing very interesting came out of all this and that is…

NO-ONE guessed #4, #8 and 10 CORRECTLY!

i guess they were the most difficult ones.**

most correct answers were given by:

prcelain doll, love2moon, kali billi, jias, essix

congratulations:) lets give them a loud round of applaud  BRAVO! u did a good job

now the CORRECT answers**:

  1. karaudhaa/Cranberry:****

****Karaundhaa can translate to “cranberry”. However, Karaunddaa more likely refers to a different species of fruitting shrub Carissa carandas, which has no common name equivalent in English.

i love its achaar and jam…yummy!**
**
2. Shahtoot/Mulberry:**
**
Mulberry trees have delicious juicy crimson black, red or white fruit is rarely
seen on the supermarket shelves hence the need to grow it yourself :cb:

  1. baRii makoiya/ras-bharii:
    **
this is my absolute favourite. i loved it when i lived in my village. the drier the sheath the riper the berry was…its called Cape Goosberry in English. we used to call baRii makaoiya [large berry] or ras-bharii…i loved ras-bharii jam…one of the best jams.
    **
  2. Kaajuu/Cashew Nuts:**
    **
NO-ONE guessed it corectly. i saw it for the first time.

THIS IS THE ONLY FRUIT IN THE WORLD WHICH HAS ITS SEED OUTSIDE THE FRUIT

…amazing! Allah kii qudrat hai bas. its SWEET when fresh and tastes nothing like the cashew nuts we eat.

when i first saw it i thought it was some kinda african version of red pepper…:cb:**

5. Jangal jalebii/Sweet Tamarind:

**commonly known as: blackbead, camachile tree, madras thorn, manila tamarind, monkeypod, sweet inga, sweet tamarind.

due to its resemblace to Imli [Tamarind] and Jalebii [sweet], its called Jangal-Jalebii OR Sweet Tamarind.

we had one tree in the annexe of our home in village. i used to eat it a lot with friends. its also a monkey’s favourite food so we had to compete with monkeys sometimes to get the best jalebi :hehe:

  1. Aamla/Indian Gooseberry:

AAMLA**** is full of medicinal properties and the richest possible natural source of vitamin ‘C’ and contains essential elements for keeping our body healthy and resistant to germs and infections. ‘AYURVEDA’ proves that AAMLA is capable of setting-right any imbalance in any of the three basic elements of the body.** **aamla is one of the most valuable berry of all the medicinal plants. Ayurveds and Hakeems use it for oil for hair and murabba for the human body respectively. Dabur Aamla Oil is world famours which gives shine, lustre, groth, thickness to ur hair. so, its very popular back home.

  1. Ber/Indian Plum:

we owned ber orchards back home and we used to eat a lot during winter months. its shape, size, color, flavour and texture varied widely. i love the khaTTi miTThii variety [sweet N sour].

later in 90’s a disease spread and destryed our orchards. it was caused by epiphytes that wud grow on theses trees and totallly cover it and hence killing it. i was very sad when this happened. :frowning:

  1. kaThal/Jack Fruit:

O’my, O’my! i LOVED this amazing thing as a FRUIT and as a vegetable. its huge, sometimes as big as a toddler weighing well over 10 kg. its so big N heavy that it grows directly on the trunk of the tree…the branches can NOT bear the weight.

[gsmedia=81657/kathal4.jpg">
kathal shaamii kabab

**
due to its texture, its best suited as a veggie for shaami kabaabs. whenever my bhabhi invited a non veg family, she wud make kaThal shami kababs. yummy!

i loved the ripe pieces…they are lovely…the flavour, the softness of the flesh and the slippey feel is great

  1. Faalsa/Grewia Berry:****

i loved to eat as such in summer months. sometimes, made sharbat which is so refreshing and gives u burst of energy  loved it. its stains on clothes are rather impossible to get rid of.

  1. Mahuaa:

Mahuaa actually is NOT a fruit … its a modified flower that looks like a fruit. its used in various ways…dried and made into breads, used to make pie [lapsii] and it makes a potent liquor…a poorman’s booze which if not made correctly kills thousands every year in rural India.

i remember as a child we use to crush these flowers in large pots and then juice cooked with 10% rice into lapsii which we used to eat with milk and malaaii…yummmyyyy…its flavour is unique.

  1. Shareefa/seeta-phal/Custard Apple:

wowwwwww!!! amazing fruit during winter months in india. its flavour and the granular texture is simply outta this world. i was always fascinated with its name which sounds more like shareefa Khaala rather than a fruit lol.

in Bombay, i love the Seeta-phal ice cream. its called Quality Ice Cream and they are the best i’ve ever tasted. they use fresh chunks of shareefa in their ice creams. simply delicious!
