I think everyone here has choosen very similar squad, with few if's and but's, Rehman should make the touring party after his very decent performance against Wi's and lets hope he will do good when he goes to SA. whatever team/squad is choosen for the SA will reflect what will be the squad for WC07'.

The PCB is going to announce a squad of 22 probables for the South Africian series and the World Cup tomorrow (Monday 18th December)

They are strong rumours that Afridi is not going to get selected.

Feb 15, 15 players ? Team Pakistan ?

The deadline is soon approaching to shortlist the squad and submit to the ICC, and almost all the teams are on their way already. Almost, yes except Pakistan, should we call it poor management and planning? or was it black magic in South Africa? Simply the former, no wonder Wasim Bari rushed to South Africa.

So, will we see all the patched up players with their own nurses or sports physiotherapist in the World Cup?

IMO 15 players:

Openers:
1) Hameed
2) Hafeez
3) Malik

Middle-order:
4) Younis
5) Yousef
6) Inzimam

All-rounders:
7) Afridi
8) Razzaq

Bowlers:
9) Rehman
10) Asif
11) Rana
12) Akther
14) Gul

Wicket Keeper:
15) Akmal

Players on stand by:
Shabbir, Rao, Sami, Iqbal, Kamal, Kaneria, Tahir and Zulqarnain.

Justification for Openers:
Hameed, Hafeez and Malik.
Must find words... ah ... musical chairs; who ever doesn't score must switch and swap with other.

Middle-Order:
Younis, Yousef and Inzi
The trio is backbone of our cricket team, they need to be more caution and play with more responsibility.

All-rounders:
Afridi and Razzaq
Both are making a come-back, lets hope they find their groove in time, with afridi bowling they should quit "no close fielder on leg side" and his bowling in windies will be more fruitful. Razzy should make up for the time lost and get back to his own usual.

Bowling:
Rehman, Asif, Rana, Akther and Gul.
I believe if any of the bowler is less than 100% fit, he should be left out of the squad, a mandatory, vigorous fitness test is a must for the bowlers, becase we know how valuable they are.

W-Keeper:
Akmal.
Do we want a wicket keeper, who's primary job is to keep wickets and catches everything comes his way, or we want wanna be/emulate Glichrist who is par above, more over we know Akmal can get runs even if he is batting at lower order. Best remdy is to give him rest before the WC in South African series.

Kamran Abbasi has recently written a profound article highlighting the major issues and questions lingering on minds of those concerned.

On the topic of Kamran Akmal, I would seriously maintain that he be dropped from the team as soon as possible (read: dropped for the this series only) before World Cup. If PCB were to follow anything resembling the ground structure of Australian cricket, Akmal would be back and fully healed up by now, having taken rest much earlier and coming back just in time for the current series.

Players have to be selected on the basis of merit, regardless of how big that player’s ‘network’ might seem to be. Australia have already sought out their forthcoming coach to take charge after the World Cup. In this part of the land we are not even certain of our own final combination let alone the desired fitness levels, which obviously is measured by different yardsticks for everyone. PCB continues on to re-invent the recipes for disaster.
