Kolkata, August 18: Concerned at recurring terror strikes in different countries, including the serial blasts in Bangladesh on Wednesday, the United States on Thursday sought assistance from India and other countries in its global fight against the scourge.
“The USA has gone on a global war against terrorism. We spend lot of time and money on this. We hope to receive assistance from other countries, including India,” US Ambassador to India David C. Mulford said.
Mulford, who called on Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee at the Writers Building during the day, condemned the serial blasts in Bangladesh saying “these type of activities are regrettable, unacceptable, irrespective of whether it takes place in New York city or Bangladesh”.
Fighting terrorism, he said, is a ‘high priority initiative’ of the US government. However, he did not discuss Bangladesh blasts or al-Qaeda’s alleged activities in Kolkata, during his hour-long meeting with Bhattacharjee.
Instead, the envoy, accompanied by the new consul general in Kolkata Henry Jardine dwelt on FDI issues and agricultural development in the state.
“We discussed about economic issues and FDI in a broad perspective. We talked about technologies, agriculture. We also talked of the agricultural development achieved by the state,” he said.
That's probably code for "send us some soldiers to "USE" in Iraq or Afganistan so that we can withdraw US troops from the morass we got ourselves into due to our own thoughtlesness".
May be I am being cynical but I wasn't always that way. US didn't lift a finger to help India against terrorism.
it's time we stopped sending american kids to war.. why can't we outsource our Army and get a couple of million Indians to do the dirty jobs.. they are doing it in other fields anyway.
if they die fighting terror for a superpower it'll still be better than their life in India today!
Uncle needs Indian army to keep China busy with Eyeraq the equation gets out of balance. But I like your outsourcing idea, with the right price India can provide cannon fodders for both Eyeraq and China.
..because the pakisatani-army-for-hire costs less . Besides, Bush does not have to be bothered from his vacation, his civil-servants can pick up a phone and order Mushy around. It is more convenient.
what? and take away the one area where Pakistan leads the world? It’s been a proudly touted thing that Pakistan has the maximum number of soldiers abroad in so called peace keeping missions …
Also don’t forget wage levels are lower in Pakistan than India.
Finally, given the tight Bush Mush hush, I think Pakistan has slam dunk on the outsourced mujahideen market
** funny jammies]what? and take away the one area where Pakistan leads the world? It's been a proudly touted thing that Pakistan has the maximum number of soldiers abroad in so called peace keeping missions .... **
Under UN for peace mission... China/Eyeraq mission is quite different.
^ obviously nothing to do with quality - Pakistan is more willing more often to send troops on such assignments on fixed price. And UN likes them, on cost grounds. That's why Pakistan is the leader in this business. Argue with it if you have to but facts are facts.:D
Islamabad, March 22, IRNA - Pakistan receives almost $100 million per
month, on account of logistics support, it provides to the US troops
in the war against terrorism, reports said Monday.
According to a half-yearly review report of the Asian Development
Bank (ADB), the logistics support payments increased by 83.3 percent
during July-December 2003 to total $581 million or about $97 million a
month.
Pakistan and the United States signed an acquisition and cross
servicing agreement (ACSA) in early 2002 to facilitate reciprocal
provision of logistics support and services between the two armed
forces, to be used primarily during combined exercising, training,
deployments, operations or other cooperative efforts.
Items permitted under the ACSA include food, water,
transportation, POL, communications and medical services and also
covers use of facilities, training services, repairs and maintenance
etc, said the Manilla-based bank.
if India shared a border with Afghanistan AND they could do these tough jobs they'd get some change thrown their way too.. right now they should go back to making money by picking up phones.. i think my mouse is a little erratic.. let me call "Josh" Jayapalamanipatnasuryavanshilayllum for support!
^:hehe: Don’t worry, next time, will not try to confuse you with facts
let me repost my earlier comments..

** Wrong !!**. If India had shared border with Afghanistan then…they would not be in a mess in the first place..therefore no need for USA to attack
People always hire** coolies** to do the tough job…because its cheaper..and convenient
At least, you admit that rent-a-army is being thrown “some change” by chacha sam
Much more respectfull then getting paid to kill your own “muslim” brothers:hehe:
Ok, but if your hand made bomb fails to explode or ak-47 locks up, you know to call mahamad in Islam-a-bad
