Less time for less pay?

Looking for some honest advise here.

Ive been working for a while as an accountant. About a year ago I switched my job and got a VP title which is similar to a manager position.
Im happy here, people are good, pay is good, opportunity to learn and grow to potiential senior vp or director in a few years. But my main issues are that the hours are really long and during our busy periods which are a couple months long at a time, I have to come to work on saturdays and sundays, and the week hours are atleast till 12 am. I can say that the busy times are probably 6 months out of 12. Also I am kind of not as energetic as I used to be (maybe im getting older)?

I dont have kids right now, and honestly speaking husband is not very motivated to do much, interms of help in the house, and financially provide. I don’t think he will ever be capable to financially provide enough to live on.

I recently purchased a house, so I feel like I dont need as much as an income now (since I dont have to save for a down payment anymore).

I am considering leaving this job, and taking a job where I am guaranteed I can leave by 10 during busy season, and dont have to work in the office at the weekends. The thing is that obviously this will be a bit of a paycut (im ok with that) and I will not have an opportunity to get another promotion, and I will have a manager title.

I want a job where In the future I can spend time with my kids and take care of my personal responsibilities during the weekend. Also, Im a bit tiried from working long hours, and what scares me is that what if I try for a couple years, and don’t get promoted to director or senior vp? I would have wasted all that time working long hours for nothing.

Anyway if someone can give me their opinion career wise I would appreciate it.

Balance...it's different for everyone.
You don't want to miss out of life by being so over burdened. For some it is okay, looks like it's not for you and that is good to recognize.

Growth opportunities are not guarantee and not simply tied to effort..sadly. So if we take that out if the equation, if you take a job where you don't have to work as much, technically on a dollars per hour you will still be okay. And with more time and mental break you may find more creativity and passion in your career and advance not by brute hours and effort but by playing it smart.

Re: Less time for less pay?

have you tried to talk to your boss, in having your working hours reduced, or working flexibly?
