This is one bad ass grandad. I mean, he had a machete in his hand, he could have defended himself with that but instead dropped it and took on the leopard like a real man - hand-to-paw fight to the death!!!
A 73-year-old Kenyan grandfather reached into the mouth of an attacking leopard and tore out its tongue to kill it, authorities said Wednesday.
Peasant farmer Daniel M’Mburugu was tending to his potato and bean crops in a rural area near Mount Kenya when the leopard charged out of the long grass and leapt on him.
M’Mburugu had a machete in one hand but dropped that to thrust his fist down the leopard’s mouth. He gradually managed to pull out the animal’s tongue, leaving it in its death-throes.
“It let out a blood-curdling snarl that made the birds stop chirping,” he told the daily Standard newspaper of how the leopard came at him and knocked him over.
The leopard sank its teeth into the farmer’s wrist and mauled him with its claws. “A voice, which must have come from God, whispered to me to drop the panga (machete) and thrust my hand in its wide open mouth. I obeyed,” M’Mburugu said.
As the leopard was dying, a neighbor heard the screams and arrived to finish it off with a machete.
M’Mburugu was toasted as a hero in his village Kihato after the incident earlier this month. He was also given free hospital treatment by astonished local authorities.
“This guy is very lucky to be alive,” Kenya Wildlife Service official Connie Maina told Reuters, confirming details of the incident.
call me picky but wouldnt the tongue have been slimy... I wouldve thought that the mans hand woulve just slipped off.....if the leopard had any sense it shouldve bitten hard and chomped the mans hand off....perhaps it was an old and toothless leopard and therefore couldnt bite.
Are leopards an endangered species...can we report this old man to someone?
Cats have rough tongues, and predatorial cars like leopards and lions and tigers have the roughest tongues of all - they are use as part of the chewing process.
The article does say that the leopard tried to bit into his wrist … I guess it could bite far enough. Either that or it was kind of distressed at having its tongue ripped out and was unable to focus on the bite.

do you think its more likely that it was a jinn telling him what to do, and the man was being helped by the jinn.

I think once the fear charged adrenaline wore off he didn't want to admit that he was so scared he dropped what was in his hands and put up his hands in front of him and one hand went into the mouth, where the rest is history......
After that large kitty died SOMEONE must have said, "Man, why didn't you just cut him open with the machete you were using" and he didn't want to say I freaked out like a little girl. And then the message from God was born.
