ok ladies. i would like some suggestions for what kind of shirt would go with this lengha. it’s just gonna be in this style with the slit and the kaam coming up.
personally i don’t like short shirts. i’m just a bit stumped on what kind of design to go for in a hip length shirt.
apart from the style of the skirt, nothing will be the same, in terms of colour and to an extent, the kaam.
i want some imaginative shirt suggestions and then i can choose something i like the sound of!
Since there's so much going on in the skirt, I'd keep the shirt simple, round or square neck, length just below the crotch area or a bit above the knee. I don't think a border at the bottom of the shirt would look nice. Some design on shirt and sleeves, and something light sprinkled over the center if you like.
well now adays the shirts in stlye for the brides are usually long up to your knees or a little above. As bunto told me so go for whtever lenght ur comfortable with.!! =)
^yea i know. but i'm only 5'2" so i don't think it would look so good. but i was seriously considering going for a longer shirt so that i would be able to wear it later with trousers... since my wedding is going to be so small sometimes i feel it's pointless that i'm going to all this trouble for 1 outfit. but then again, i'm only getting married once and will never have the chance to be sooo dressed up again, so i'm going for the design i've liked for ages.
i just don't know what kind of style (not length) to go for. something with a layered effect like the skirt? kaam placement? empire line? etc etc
Stoppit if u're height is 5"2 don't opt for a very long shirt/kameez, the front of the kameez shud have work on it (galla) and then light "sprinkles" or "boti's" all over the kameez.
i'm 5'2" as well stoppit. i wouldn't do a knee length shirt cos i think that is too long, but i would definitely end the shirt just under the hips. and keep it form fitted- make sure it fits really well all over. and be careful of the fabric- if you are not having a heavy band of kaam on the bottom "daaman" of the shirt, then i would make the fabric a bit weighty on its own. my kameez was not only short but also made of very fine silk which was nice and all but SO lightweight that it was literally floating. it was extremely annoying and wasn't a very flattering look overall. thank God for heavy dupattas to sort of weigh it down, but it wasn't "good enough" considering how lovely the rest of my lehenga was. when i'm in karachi again iA, i'm going to get my shirt redone in a different style and fabric so when i wear it again it looks better.
also i wouldn't recommend a straight square neckline- it can cut you off, espe. if you have a larger bust, again experience taught me this. go with square but with rounded edges if you want instead- it will soften up the look.
i would suggest kaam on the sleeve edges, the neckline, on the bottom of the shirt (the daamun) and "booties" or little bits of kaam sprinkled all over the rest of it.
how about those old style cap sleeves that Karma has on some of their outfits? i think if you did the shirt in the same sheer fabric that the lehenga overlay is in, those sleeves would look really pretty. i love the idea of the rounded daaman too- very nice.
such a beautiful pick for your wedding dress! love it! :)
Mine is going to be mid-thigh...because the 'daman' is heavy and I dont want it to be bunched up when i sit down. PF your outfits were beautiful...and very thoughtfully done!!
PF, yea, both your outfits are gorgeous. i was really considering doing something like the walima one but i don't think i can pull it off. i think i will probably go with the same length as your wedding blouse.
SGC, thanks for your detailed reply! yea, i was wanting to incorporate the 2 layers somehow into the blouse but i’m not feeling very imaginative at the moment… too much else on. but i have to give the order when i go to PK in a few weeks so i need to get the design finalised!
the kaam placement is pretty much how i was thinking. i have always liked the rounded daamun too.. but do you guys think it would actually match the rest of the outfit? there are a lot of sharp angles and i thought rounded might be out of place? what do you guys think of a square daamun with rounded edges?
this is the colour of the lengha i’m going for with the 2 coloured kaam but the kaam style will be like that of the red-yellow pic above.
sometimes i think maybe i should just go for a copy of the red one coz that’s lovely too! ugh, i’m so indecisive! i’ve just always seen myself in off-white/ivory for my wedding day.
lastly… i thought this blouse style was different to what you usually see. i was hoping someone might be able to come up with an idea that incorporates the 2 layers of the skirt and is nonconventional!
some great suggestions though and i now have an idea of what i can go for!
i dont know if i would do a split-front lehenga AND a split-front kameez, stoppit... i think i'd keep the skirt as is and do the daamun as you suggested -square with rounded edges. the neckline can match that if you want.
and also, go with the ivory if thats what you've always dreamed of! you don't want to go with whats trendy and then regret it.
plus i think the ivory would look stunning in this pattern. instead of doing ivory with two other colors per se, you could do a mix of dull gold and silver kaam perhaps? so one patti of kaam would be silver, the other dull gold but both on ivory bases.
