Re: LeJ must stop terrorism in the name of Islam: Imran Khan
I personally support the decision of giving the taleban of Swat a chance to establish peace there. Before that the people were confused as who to support, Pakistan army or the taleban as both were muslims. When taleban missed the opportunity, and instead tried to increase their area of control, the whole country demanded an operation there. Imran Khan at that time was not in favor of operation and that was a blunder on his part. Imran Khan didnt have any standing on the national level, hence his opinion didnt matter in any case. Even now Imran Khan is not in assembly, but still he is held more accountable as compared to Nawaz Sharif (whose party’s pandering with ASWJ/LEJ is well known) and the Federal government which holds the interior ministry.
Secondly the military does not want to launch operations in NWA hence making lame excuses. Although for other operations in FATA and Balochistan they have never asked for consensus. Operations in Khyber Agency and Orakzai are going on for more than 3 years, I wonder who they are fighting there and how long it will take them to clear the areas. Even now in the garb of carrying out operations against LEJ in Balochistan, operations are being carried out against the Baloch nationalists and the LEJ is free to unleash their terror on the populace. More than the politicians and ordinary people, its the military which needs to define its priorities.
Can we blame our people when our military establishment has portrayed these people as heroes for over 25 years? What did they expect the people to do when they suddenly designated those people as enemies, who they had been hailing as heroes for a long time?
