hello ladies,
ok i know being a guy, its kinda awkward for me to be asking this.. but does anyone know or can tell me a rough estimate about how much a medium quality lehenga or like really nice shalwar kameez cost in London? A friend of mine is getting engaged and he has to send money to uk for her lehenga or shalwar kameez as he wants her to buy one of her own choice… basically any outfit that you girls think is appropriate for engagement/nikkah and the price range..
Hmmm......well first of all there is no choice here. Good luck finding anything nice. Secondly....if you want to pay for something that is half-decent (emphasis on the HALF) then you'd be looking at around £150 - £200. But nice lehengas are really very sparse round these parts - unless the girl is Indian. Then she'll have a whale of a time shopping in Southall, Green Street or Tooting :)
^You'll definitely need more than £200 if it's London. The shops are really expensive these days, maybe something like £500? Really depends on how heavy the outfit is and if it's for something ready-made or if it's for something custom made.
^^^ yeah but depends what the function is for. For a wedding, yes you need more than 200. For an engagement or nikkah, surely you don't want something that heavy....do you??
I bought a lehenga to wear on sister's baraat from London for £150. This was back in 2006, so I would imagine prices would be around 200-odd now. That's what I'm basing it on.
and no.. nothing heavy.. its not a wedding .. just a nikkah.. any decent lehenga which is not heavy.. or even really fancy shalwar kameez would also do .. its just for nikkah for now. So, im assuming.. umm.. 300 pounds should be enough to get a good outfit right?
I wouldn't spend more than a £100 on an engagement dress from Southall. I recently got engaged, and the guy was doing a BOGOF deal, so I got two dresses for £180.
I know London prices quite well, and even for something that's not a proper bridal lengha, prices have really shot up, you're definitely looking at something like a few hundred pounds for a decent outfit or heavy salwar kameez. But it depends were you go as well, Southall is a bit cheaper than Ilford or Green Street.
Also depends on which stores too, I find that the Pakistani shops are starting to become a bit more pricier than the Indian ones.
