Legitimacy of Maulana Rumi's couplet

How legitimate and acceptable is this following Persian couplet being quoted from Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi’s Masnawi Al Maanawi:-

" MAN ZE QURAN MAGHZ RA BARDASHTAM!
USTAKHAN PESH E SAGAAN ANDAKHTAM!

[Meaning: I have lifted the marrow from the Quran (for my mental hunger) and have left the empty bones to the dogs to quarrel upon]

Does not our Imaan demand that we find nothing unacceptable in the Holy Quran and the Quraan is acceptable to all Momins in its entirety?

Re: Legitimacy of Maulana Rumi's couplet

maybe he means to say something in the meaning of this Quranic verse....

Quran 3:7
*He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding. *

Learned Sir! When Allah in the Quran says: " The ones firmly grounded in knowledge say that we believe in the Quran, the whole of it is from our Lord", then*** it means that nothing in the Quran is to be discarded and thrown to dogs for quarelling as the renowned Maulana Rumi has done in this couplet!*** Do you mean to say that Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi was not one firmly grounded in knowledge?

Re: Legitimacy of Maulana Rumi's couplet

^ rumi is well known for being a sufi poet and hence u dont take the literal meaning his words to tell u what exactly he means....

bone and dogs fighting over a bone are typical examples of persian poetry used to show how unlearned people fight over a useless thing....
perhaps rumi means from his poetry that he has taken the fundamental verses of the Quran and follows them and has left the allegorical verses for unlearned people to quarrel over....
he does not mean to compare verses of Qurans to bones tossed over to dogs....
i hope u r getting my point....
quarreling over the mushtabihat verses of the Quran and their meanings is indeed a waste of time as Allah says clearly in the verse i quoted for u above that only Allah knows the hidden meaning of such verses....

Re: Legitimacy of Maulana Rumi's couplet

good explanation armughal.

others: one can not read rumi's work and understand it right away.
I would suggest getting musadas e rumi with translation and tashreeh, to get an understanding of his poetry.

Musaddas e Rumi??? . For Allah’s sake where is THAT book my dear Pir Sahib? The world knows and reads Masnawi Al Maanawi of the Maulana from where this couplet has been quoted.

Re: Legitimacy of Maulana Rumi's couplet
