Renowned Pakistani singer Zubaida Khanum passed away on late Saturday night. (INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAEHI RAJIOON)
**
She was 50. Khanum, who has been staying with her sons, died after protracted ailment in Lahore.
She started her career in 1951 from a movie Billo and sang for numerous Punjab and Urdu language films.

How could she be 50 at time of her death , if she started her career in 1951?

May she rest in peace. I attended at tribute to her at the PNCA a couple of years ago and was amazed to learn how some of the biggest hits from the 50s and 60s were rendered by her and mortified at my own acute ignorance of this legend. Apparently Madam Noor Jehan and her coterie had monopolized not just the industry but the media and the public into believing how there was no one before or after her.

Madam Noorjehan was a good singer, but due to her politics so many talented singers couldn't get proper coverage and opportunity to sing. Mala, Naseem Begum, Zubaida Khanam, Naheed Niazi, Nayyara Noor, Mehnaz to name few.

I've only heard the "assan jaan k mit lai akh vay" song from her and never really knew who the singer was.
