Legend of the month IV - Tiger Woods

This series continues into its fourth month, with this month the focus on Tiger Woods

He can easily be considered the best modern-time golfer and few would challenge that he is the best golfer ever.
Perhaps he is seen in the US differently, but especially in Europe he sparked considerable interest into the sport of golf because he was this new kid who suddenly rose to stardom among the world’s elite. Moreover, him being a black man also indicated that the elitair sport of golf could be handled by ‘normal’ people as well.

He is a true champion winning numerous challenges, cups, and tournaments :k:

Re: Legend of the month IV - Tiger Woods

The discussion as to who is the best golfer "ever" is never-ending. Many claim that it is too early to call, because Nicklaus and Snead have more majors and PGA victories, respectively, than him. Of course, at current pace, he'll over take them, easily.

I use the word "easily" failry losely here. Nothing is "easy" in pro golf. What Tiger does week in and week out is simply incredible.

In my mind, he is the best golfer, bar none. He may not win every tournament - no one can - but he brings a sizzle to the proceedings. His long iron game is a treat to watch, true, but the real money is in his putting. Absolutely incredible. And the way he packages the whole thing, with an unnervingly strong mental game, in a field that is full of other very talented players, he gets to be the King in my book.

To be honest, many top-level players can hit most of the shots he hits. But its his consistency, that does them in.

The fact is, without Tiger, golf is so very dead.

Even though the American media does suck up to him a lot, you can't say that about any other athlete and their sport since probably early Ali.

He's probably one of the greatest athletes to ever walk on earth. he almost has the most major wins with plenty of more years to go and hes just amazing.
