Pistol Pete is one of the best ever tennis players.
He versatility and all-round game has only been matched by Federer.
Having won a record 14 GS-titles, he is also the only player to have been ranked no1 for 6 consecutive years. He also won wimbledon a record 7 times, during his reign only ever having lost at wimbledon to Krajiceck, and - perhaps suitably- the last time to Federer.
He also shared some great rivalries, especially with Andre Agassi.
I particularly remember his great serve and volley game, his running forehands along the line and corss court, and his jumping overhead smashes
always been a great player to watch :k:
do share your memorbale moments, videos, anecdotes etc.
Pete Sampras, was the only one (at that time) famous for his slam dunk smashes. He is not just an awesome tennis player and a former number one, but he is also an awesome basketball player. I once saw him playing at his home against Ivanesivic....both played fantastic, but Pete won the match by a margin of two points.
I loved his serving style and I still admire him for his brilliant back hand action.
my all time favourite and THE undisputed champion of grass court
Don’t forget his rivalary with Jim Courier. Still remember one of his best 5-set victory against Courier when Sampras was constantly crying as his friend Tim Gullikson was diagnosed with brain tumour.
Do you guys remember him often getting support from greek fans?
The undisputed champion of grass? Uh huh, not since he was dethroned by Federer who is on his way to winning more Wimbledon titles than anyone else.
Sampras was no doubt an all-time great but he gets a lot more recognition due to being American than Roger does.
Player-to-player, it's not even close. Fed is the greatest of all time, winning three separate grand salms all at least thrice and making the finals to the French twice (Sampras' best was semis, I think)
^I think it’ll b more suitable to talk about that if the topic was Sampras vs Federer
Sampras was awesome!
And umm, I think he wasnt ranked #1 for 6 consecutive years but the record is that he ended the year ranked #1 for 6 consecutive years. I think, Federer is the all-time for consecutive weeks ranked at #1. Not sure though

call me bias but I dont think Federer has faced the same amount/quality of competition which Sampras had.
