I was wondering seeing as to be recognised as a husband and wife you either have to have a civil ceremony before your nikah, or have your nikah at a registered mosque, does anyone know of any registered mosques or gotten married at a registered mosque?
Re: Legally married in Britain
No the registration happens in a registry office usually, simply because the civil ceremony is free from any religious content, its purely a marriage contract.
You can have the civil marriage before or after the nikkah it makes no difference in the eyes of the law.
Re: Legally married in Britain
do the UK authorities accept Pakistan "nikah nama" (with english translation) for immigration purposes?
If the nikaah takes place in a building that's got a licence to hold civil marriages then you don't need to have a seperate civil wedding. Marriage Act 94. You can register your nikaah as your marriage.
And yes a nikaah done abroad is accepted as a legal marriage in England. If its a legal marriage in the country that it was conducted then it's legal here.
Re: Legally married in Britain
ty for the answer!!!
Re: Legally married in Britain
do nikkah first and then go for civil marriage.
Re: Legally married in Britain
Why should you do nikaah first?
Re: Legally married in Britain
^^ Thats what i was wondering?
but i suppose you wana get ‘married’ in the eyes of god first!?
Re: Legally married in Britain
Do a Nikaah first because if anything thats the only official marriage (religiously) but a registry marriage is for the law. Thats what i plan to do!
Re: Legally married in Britain
I think a NIkah is sufficient...,maybe you still have to register the marriage?
Re: Legally married in Britain
^ You have to in England.
In the US most imams are licensed to do both the religious and civil aspects.
Re: Legally married in Britain
Someone told me some time back that if the Nikah takes place in Pakistan then make sure to also get an "english" copy as well...and also make sure that all (Moulvi, witnesses, bride, groom) all also sign the english copy as well...I was also told that this would be accepted for immigration purposes.

In pakistan, it is mandatory to register marriage with NADRA too. one piece of paper is religiously sufficient, but to make passport, name change and NIC do require civil registration.
