Do you remember your Teachers, for a long time?
Have you stayed in contact with them?
Do you carry their research forward and also recall them in the presence of your own students?
Is continuous inquiry from a teacher to a student takes place, now a days in Pakistan’s schools, colleges and universities with teachers and students being mindful of each others’ expertise and following up on each others’ career successes?
How can you improve teaching and learning in Pakistan within the context of the relationship between teacher and student?
Re: Legacy of Good Professors: Their Successful Students
I am in touch with some of fav teachers off and on. Infact I was in contact with one of them just a few weeks ago as I tried to hire someone for my team, i Had reached out to my prof to see if he had any graduating students he can recommend.
I am not a teacher so I cant say I recall them in presence of my students, but I have mentioned whatI have learnt from them in social and professional settings.
student teacher relationship is very simple really. profs that I remember and who are my fav are those who made an impact on my life, one way or the other. Whether it was some planned deliberate set of involved activities that were of benefit to me, or just soemthing that the person did in normal course of their activities and it had some resonance with me.
Personalities of people should shine through, the problem I saw was that especially in pakistan, ppl put on a 'teacher' personna when they entered class which shrouded their personalities, made them more of book reading and information dispensing robots than people who were helping us learn. You cant relate to that easily and then its a big hinderance in student teacher interactions.
