Sorry, this isn’t a typical “Aneel Khan thread”. I actually need some help:
My mom, 47, routinely has leg aches and pains. The affected area is usally the muscle(s) on the back side of the leg and sometimes the back side of the knee cap gets swollen. I do “maalish” with hot oil but its effect doesn’t last too long. So my question is what else can I do, apart from seeing a doctor (with whom I’m making an appointment tomorrow)? Any other home remidies?
the swollen knee could be due to excess of fluids building in the space between the knee cap the bone. as for the leg pains...there could be variety of reasons. if your mom is diabetic...this could be a build up of uric acid...and the only cure and prevention is a lot of water.
:( Other than doctor, just massage it every night.. even if it doesnt really help, at least that shud tkae her mind off the pain (unless ure malish hurts more :p)
Always start thinking with whats causing the pain. Well is ur mom a bit over weight? (no offence) the pain could be coz of that or has she been lifting heavy stuff (that could have prolly caused a muscle cramp). You can also make her wear a knee brace, it might help relieve the pain.
Anil, there are numerous things that can give pain in the calf. The info you are giving is too aspecific to even consider something. I suggest you ignore the semi-advice here, and just wait for a proper opinion by a doc who can actually also have a look at the leg.
Take her to a doctor immediately!! Pain in the back of the knees is often an indication for DVT (deep vein thrombosis--a blood clot). Not to scare you, but it can have fatal consequences. She may have hypertension and that puts her at risk for a stroke.
if so...prolonged sitting could cause muscle cramps.
waht did the doc say?
No, she wasn't sitting continuously in the car. 2 or 3 breaks were taken (4 hour ride).
Alhumdullilah Alhumdullilah, the doctor said its nothing serious and that anti-inflammatories will lessen the pain. He also said its quite normal for aging women.
