Getting ready to depart Pakistan after our trip here. What do you guys do with leftoever paki rupees? Is there a place at the airport to exchange the rupees into Dollars ? Where are they located and will they take smaller bills and coins also?
Re: Leftoever money after Pakistan trip
How frequently do you travel to Pakistan? If you know you'll be making subsequent trips, and it's not a huge amount, I'd just keep the rupees to use the next time around. It's always nice to have on hand when you first land at the airport.
That's what my husband I do.
Re: Leftoever money after Pakistan trip
I don't travel to pak frequently... That's why I would like to convert into dollars before I leave lahore .
Re: Leftoever money after Pakistan trip
- Are you going to convert the money before you go to PK? Because you actually get a better rate if you convert while there.
- Is the money for daily expenses/transport/entertainment/food while you're there or for larger purchases? If it's for larger purchases, we've actually just taken USD and paid in USD based on the daily conversion rate.
And finally, why not convert dollars to rupees on a weekly basis (about 1/4 a week) and then as needed so you don't end up with excess rupees.
Truth is, most people still have a few thousand rupees left over - it's the nature of the exchange rate - consider donating, it or leaving it with a relative or bringing it back with you for future trips.

This! We also usually just divide up the remaining rupees among the house help, driver, chaukidaar etc, and then keep the rest. It's been about 6 years since my husband or I have been to Pakistan, but I still have a file folder with around Rs. 5000 in it lol
Re: Leftoever money after Pakistan trip
Alla the airports have a money exchange counter but their exchange rates and service fee is ridiculous. coins are not exchangeable. smaller bills are fine.
it's best to a money exchanger in town [banks]. as Khatti suggested, if you visit Pakistan frequently, may be you save your cash for the next trip. [taking a large undeclared sum of cash out of the country is illegal].
Re: Leftoever money after Pakistan trip
or buy some food at the airport.

sadqa
Give it to the poor. The taxi driver. Etc. There's plenty people there..
Re: Leftoever money after Pakistan trip
You will have to have kilos of Pak coins to make back a few dollars ... So you are better off giving those away ... Or getting a snack.
Larger amounts might get you a few dollars back ... But if you are talking about say amounts like 10,000 rupees then it is worth converting back ... Any less than 3000 then you could just give it away to several people at the airport in charity.

Re: Leftoever money after Pakistan trip
i don't take much cash with me. i use credit/debit cards. it's safer and more convenient. i get a better exchange rate as well.
