Left over food at wedding

What happens to leftover food at weddings in pakistan? Specially at banquet halls. As Sometimes the food is good enough to feed thousand people.

Also at resturants, buffets everyday lot of food is not consumed. how do they utilise it ?

Re: Left over food at wedding

The waiters and cooks have to eat too, and so do the drivers and other servants of the people attending the wedding.

Re: Left over food at wedding

^ Yeah but do they get to eat THAT food thats served in banquet halls and weddings, or do they have to eat cheap, sub-standard stuff?

Re: Left over food at wedding

They eat leftovers, if there are any. If not, daal roti say gozara

Re: Left over food at wedding

Thats capitalism baby. Bas apna pait bharo baqi gaiy bhaaR may.

Re: Left over food at wedding

hmm i thought the banquet halls people refuse to hand over the left overs to the family renting, its eat as much as you can here policy and the rest is either recycled or sold cheap to low down food outlets. dont know how authentic this is.

Re: Left over food at wedding

well all d leftover food on both of my sisters weddings was packed up for us to tke bk home .. jisme se humne kuch guest ko bhi diya ( close ppl)

Re: Left over food at wedding

totally upon ppl holding such event. some parents gets very happy so they distributes among servents of those halls. if they r kanjoos maki choos...they will take the food n store in their deep freezers.

Re: Left over food at wedding

I know that when people arrange wedding themselves the food is distributed amongst guest servents and rest is stored although mostly it distributed completely. But i am talking about banquet halls they cook huge amount of food on almost daily basis. and lots of food is not consumed. And most of the time it is not possible to store it for later use as the quality deteriorate and also it can not be used at next wedding because it wont be fresh.

Distributing among servents and employees is fine. But at time the food is much more than that. Specially if the gather is big :hmmm:

Quite a few years ago, I saw a documentary on NDTV, they showed an NGO which was doing this task of collecting left over food from hotels, resturants and providing it to orphanage and shelters and such comunities. They told that the the most of the left over food (which is quite eddible ) goes to waste dump

Re: Left over food at wedding

left food should be packed …:hmmm:

Re: Left over food at wedding

they do not cook a huge amount of food that is why they ask u hw many ppl r coming along so dey cn cook per head . also in a restaurant they cook wen u give orders. so i dont think dere will b dt many leftovers.

Re: Left over food at wedding

Problem is that we all over-order varieties so bound to be left-overs. Policy of one of our distant relatives is to make so much bcos rather there be too much leftover than be short by just a tiny bit.

Re: Left over food at wedding

^ yeh true dt

Re: Left over food at wedding

In Pakistan among all the weddings I attended, I never saw food going to waste.

Re: Left over food at wedding

Yes almost all of it makes it to the plates but not all of the food goes beyond the plate.

I was at coopers mosque (Kennedy/Coopers) for iftar couple years ago. The food was free so as usual all the desis packed their plates. This one guy watched his 8 year old making a mountain of biryani in his plate and didnt say anything. The kid then ate only 3-4 spoonfuls of that biryani and the rest went to waste. The sad part of was father watched all this happen and it didnt bother him one bit.
