Left-handed XI

How about having a consensus and picking an All-time lefty XI. (along the same lines of the All-time Pak XI that was picked a few weeks ago).

some that instantly came to my mind were:

Test XI
openers: Border, Lara
middle order: Thorpe, Gower, Sobers
bowlers: Wasim, Derek Underwood
keeper: Gilchrist

ODI XI
openers: Anwar, Lara
middle order: Bevan, Sobers
bowlers: Wasim
keeper: Gilchrist

That’s an incomplete pool of course. so who’d you nominate for the eleven spots?

Which Jeff Thompson is that? The one who bowled with Lillee was a right handed bowler.

he was? :o

ay lo, here I was always having had a mental image of Thommo being a left-handed fast bowler!! thanx for the correction Faisal bhai.

no ganguly in the list????
no jaysuria even????
what about gary kirsten????
daniel vettori????
hayden????

Graeme Pollock needs to be on the list. Some people consider him the best left-handed batsman - even better than Sobers.

Jaysuria
Saeed Anwar
Brian Lara
Ganguly
Garry Sobers
Michael Bevan
Adam Gilchrist
Wasim Akram
Bruce Reid
Iqbal Qasim
Chaminda Vaas

A very strong batting line up but not so strong a bowling line up. But I am sure the batsmen will pile up enough runs that this bowling line up can defend. I'd open the bowling with Wasim Akram and Chaminda Vaas. Have Reid come in a first change and then depending on the pitch either have Sobers or Qasim take over from the other end. Ganguly can ball a bit too incase one of the bowlers is having a bad day.

armughal, like I said..that was an incomplete list. Those were just some of the plyrs that instantly came to mind when thinking 'All-time' and I typed up that post. oh yeah, how could I forget Jaysuriya! yeah he'd definitely be in the ODI XI, as well as Ganguly.

Vettori and Hayden?? you kidding me.. they might make a second XI at best. They're not in the same league as the other big guns.

Nice team LahoriMunda, I'd prolly go with the same sans the last 2.

I haven't seen Iqbal Qasim's game but I have Derek Underwood's- and this guy was lethal, especially in damper conditions. I'd include Vaas in a left-handed squad of 15 for sure, but would only slot him in an XI if there wasn't any other (better) bowler around.

Old Man, I agree, Grame Pollock was an outstanding batsman, and if any left-hander could outdo Sobers, it was him.

Saeed Anwar
Matthew Hayden
Brian Lara
Gary Sobers
Clive Lloyd
Graeme Pollock
Micheal Bevan
Adam Gilchrist
Wasim Akram
Chaminda Vaas
