For a while I was doubting their manhood. What kind of army takes no actions against a foreign country slaughtering their civilian popualtion?
The Lebanese army opened fire on Israeli helicopters trying to land near a town in the Bekaa valley, preventing them from setting down, Lebanese security sources and witnesses said.
The four helicopters appeared to be trying to land Israeli soldiers near the town of Yammouni, they said.
The helicopters flew away before Israeli warplanes launched air raids on the area, the sources said.
^ bhai jaan, the thing is not really funny, it was more in sarcasm. It took something like Qana for Lebanese army to wakeup, would they be able to fight like Hezbollah? If they have been sleeping for so long then there is little chance they can imitate Hezbollah.
Unfortunately it will take a lot more than Qana to make the Lebenese army fight back. Their own comrades were killed when their barracks was bombed in the opening days of the conflict and the response was mute. Perhaps when their very own livelihood is threatened they'll decide to take up arms.
The Lebanese govt and army has never been out to control Hezbollah. They have not implemented the UN resolution calling to diarm the group as it would only cause civil unrest and divide. Their successive governments have always left Hezbollah to operate freely in the south providing far better protection against Israel then they can. Any attempt to diarm them would be tantamount to civil war.
However an army's primary job is to protect its nation against external aggressors and in this case against an aggressor that has a history of not just mercilessly persecuting Palestinians in the occupied territories, but a history of committing war crimes against Lebanon itself, one would expect them to show some honour against Israel.
^^ Why else would Lebanese allow militias to rule the country? Knowing fully well that any Militia weather PLO, or Amal, or Druz, or Hizbiz are there to serve their masters and not Lebanese nation.
This is the biggest blunder on part of Lebanese to turn over and play dead, hoping this militian bear would simply go away. Guess what! The bear end up mauling the whole Lebanese nation in addition to inviting the whole tribe of grizzlies.
Heck it is the other way around. Hizbiz minority has become the masters of Lebanese people. Even your PM dare not say anything about the clown name nasrullah.

You are getting bogged down in word-smithing. Hizbiz represent Shia underclass in Lebanon. Just consider Lebanon's ratios (35% christians, 35% Shia, 25% Sunni, and 5% Druz). Militant hizbiz reprsent at the most 40% that still is a minority number.
Those ratios are from the 1930s, idiot. It's 2006. It's illegal to conduct a census in Lebanon, for fear that it will show the country's true demographics which put the Shia, who ALL support Hezbollah, in the majority, about 55 to 60%.
