Re: Leaving work
I was in a horrible situation at my last place of employment. I had a track record of super reviews, one of the biggest bonus earners every year in the groups that I worked in and I dedicated myself completely to my job. Well, since I was completely honest with my boss and told him that I was having trouble conceiving and I would "retire" once I got my house in order...instead of working with me and being thankful, he started hunting me, looking to save a few bucks and make me quit before I got pregnant so that they'd have to pay maternity leave.
I kept written records of everything. He said that I didnt answer the night pager, that I came in late, that I didnt work on the things that he assigned me and wrote these things in my review. I wrote a rebuttal. I supplied emails (from people who thanked me for answering their calls at any time of day or night), I saved my own personal phone bills to show how much I'd call in to work. THEN I took it all to the Human Resources department and lodged a formal complaint. I ended up resigning - on my own terms a few months later. Then a few months after that, the boss I worked for was asked to find himself another job - quickly.
Stand up for yourself and document everything.
