Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

One of our members Ruiner brought up a question in one of the other threads and its a very valid question in my opinion ..

Electric appliances left turned on , for example Rice cookers or slow cookers .. In many cases even dryers and washing machines , dishwashers etc how comfortable are you leaving these on while you arent at home or even when you are at home but night time you let the appliances run knowing they will shut down automatically when the cycle ends?

Isnt it very risky?

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

aap aure Ruiner , raat ko apne ghar ke main cricuit board off ker ke soya karain.

Normal people would have so many appliances/gadgets running at night, even the one with open flame. That includes fans, AC's, furnaces, some electric bulb and what not.

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

CB, I never used to leave my appliances running but with a toddler I can only run the dishwasher either at night or I have it run when we are going out.

These days a lot of appliances come with an automatic off like irons back in the day. leaving an iron would burn down houses, not anymore most irons have a built in system of switching themselves off.

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

^ :cb: .. TLK , I dread leaving any appliances on at night .. One of the houses in my street once caught fire , the fire fighters later stated that the cause of fire was the dryer ! the intense heat can start a fire …

Honestly, i dont leave anything on at night … but I take special care to turn every single socket off when going on holiday … and leaving an appliance left running while I am not home … just sounds a bit too adventurous to me :hula:

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

even when u're at home turn all the appliances off...accidents happen...
specially the cellfone n laptop chargers n computer switches when not using...
the capacitors doesnt have that much capacity

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

I am sooooooooo careful. I am okay with things turned on when I am in the house but when we go out I make sure everything is turned off (of course except the fridge). I make sure everything is unplugged, check the stove just in case, heater is off. I've heard of wayyyyyyyyyy too many fires/accident's because of of this. My mom has always emphasized on this. Even when I go to take shower I make sure nothing is on. Hey you never know!

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

i turn everything off before leaving my house the thought of something electrical being still on at home drives me nuts.. so yes at night and while going out everything is switched off or unplugged.. one bad habit of mine though is not turning off my laptop fully i just put it on hibernation even that freaks me out sometimes.. :hinna: oh and night lights REALLY scare me so i keep the guest room light on so the kids do not get scared at night. :chai:

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

Put the appliances on IP based UPS which you can login remotely and turn off and on. Like you can install an IP based thermostat and when you are away from the house, it is programmed to turn off the heat/ac but when you return, you can login and turn it on (android or iphone app or even a browser) and by the time you get home, the house is either cold or hot and toasty in winter. These days I am looking at the Nest and couple of others for the house, lets see which one makes the cut!

I use to run Cisco lab at home and I would turn that lab on and off as I would need to work on it (remotely from work or from another state) using an IP power switch... each outlet can be controlled, turn off or on remotely with click of a button. It saved a lot on the power bill as leaving that lab on would mean $300-$500 to monthly bill. I still leave some parts of that lab on today but those are just everyday use computers/servers, etc.

For above to work, you need to have your internet modem on all the time, shouldn't be a problem for most of us.

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

Jaanleva, that sounds like a brilliant option , straight out of the future homes :cb: .. I love it , though its slightly expensive but I guess worth it …

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

Okay when you guys talk about off...do you mean just switching things off?

Or do you mean actually pulling appliances out of their sockets?

Re: Leaving the electrical appliances on ..

Its not expensive at all, IP power switch is around $100-$300, really depends on which you buy… wese jitna meetha dalo ghay phir utna hee meetha ho ga naa
