learning to sew

I’m going to learn to sew clothes for the first time. I’m so hopeless, I’m even happy if I manage to get a thread through the eye of a needle!

What’s easier to start with? Shalwaar-kameez or should I take western clothing course? My Aunty says it’s two very different ways of sewing and it would mix me up to learn western style of sewing first. She thinks for now I should begin with shalwaar-kameez.

I would love to learn how to sew too but find it hard to find the time to learn. Oh and I need to buy a sewing machine first.

Yeah, I was lazy too, my Mom would always tell me I should learn it, but I wouldn't listen. Then later I couldn't find the time. Why are Moms always right? lol

I began learning to sew also (but I am no expert I have only sewed one outift) the shalwar is much easier than the kameez. I think you'll have a easier time learning Pakistani outfits first and its more beneficial if your living abroad.

I learned to sew with amriki clothes, I still have yet to sew some pakistani clothes. Dunno when that will happen. I basically learned to sew then barely ever did it again.

I think you should learn to sew first whatever style you wear most often, or will be sewing most often.

THat would be shalwaar-kameez then. I started yesterday. We cut the shalwaar. So far, it was easy. But then, to stick all the parts together. That was tough! It's practice, practice, practice.

I learned to sew few years ago on my ammys insistance and while learning I stitched all sort of traditional clothes from shalwar qameez to sharara etc but later on i found it so boring ,i could not carry it on further. Darzi zindabad :-)

they all say it is easier to stich a shalwar than teh kameez... but interestingly , i know how to stitch a qameez ... and not a shalwar. because I learned teh former from my bhabhi who proved to be an incredibly good teacher... and teh other from ammi jan who always thinks that teh pupil knows half the things already.

But a tip is to learn on a doll's clothes. I didn't though but my sister did.

im taking an asian dressmaking course next year, if i like it im going for a diploma in fashion alongside my chem degree :wink:
but hey goodluk :k: dont worry it takes time but with practice ull be the best :slight_smile:
