I was learning Urdu from books , as our Medium of instruction was Urdu, was listning to Urdu on Radio and very seldom from TV or Movies.
Had very rare interaction with people who were speaking in Urdu.
Then I was Nominated for admission in Karachi , I went there after my first graduation (14 years of Study ) , initially it was really difficult to speak the language to my Fellows of Karachi , lahore etc in a way I was supposed to.
Later on i adopted to that as I got environment for learning urdu and speaking or practicing that.
Understanding urdu speaking or Reading i had learnt very earlier can say in class six or seven.
from My this Experience i can say that Learning a language from Books is VERY VERY DIFFICULT ,
Yes ,
One can supliment Radio , TV , MOVIES with it , but that will only give 80% listning Power.
But Speaking Power needs its environment, without which one may not succeed.
Do you know some otherways of Learning any language ?
oh no really?! cos i have a book on learning urdu too, and had hoped itd help lol. theres no urdu lessons available where i live unfortunately.
another way of learning is audio learning, so tapes or cds with lessons on them. have you tried this?
Fortunately we do have urdu classes that the gov. provide in school only if there are enough students. So i have been learning urdu since class 1 and it has been very difficult since one doesnt usually interact in urdu in school. But after 10 years of urdu class once a week, i can finally talk fluently and also write. And oh, Dramas help alot!
