Learning Arabic

I’m considering learning Arabic (for obvious reasons)… thinking of Rosetta Stone.

Any suggestions?

Re: Learning Arabic

What are the obvious reasons Muniya?

I also want to give Rosetta Stone a shot. But I am more interested in Hispanic.

Comprehension of Quran kareem would suffice, obvious reason.

Re: Learning Arabic

are u thinking of Quranic Arabic or everyday English?

For everyday Arabic, use the Madinah books. I have used them, and they are great.

AbdurRahman.org [ Mastering Madina Arabic Books ]

It also comes in a book form that you can buy from any Islamic Book store.

Madinah Arabic Reader Book 1 : Children’s Series : Part of an Eight Part Course for the Learning of Arabic as Taught at the Islamic University, Madinah (Dr. V Abdur Rahim)

My cousins who are in full time Islamic school use this book. I used it when I was in my alima class as well. The masjid that I go to, also uses this book.

For Quranic Arabic with Tajweed, there are lots of books and websites. Not sure what specific ones though.

Re: Learning Arabic

Tlk - for everything religious. Would be awesome to not have to spend twice the amount of time on literal traslation and then the actual application of the ayah's

My issue with rosetta stone was what afshi mentioned; I don't want learn conversational arabic rather Quranic arabic.

Shopping fan - you're response was to snarky rather then well thought of. But thanks for playing. :)

Re: Learning Arabic

actually, with the conversational arabic, i actually understand bits of the quran while im reading. it's really nice.

Re: Learning Arabic

Uni class or Community College class. **Supplement **with Rosetta Stone/Pimsleur/other stuff like that LiveMocha site.
Find people to speak with and speak with them in the language.

Only thing better than this is going to country of your language and enrolling in a class there.

Re: Learning Arabic

i once tried to learn Arabii with the help of this great book...called "Arabii Mo'allim" which has three parts to it...it's a soft-cover pocket size book...very handy to take along wherever you go...i think it was published from Delhi, India.

Rosetta Stone is awesome! I learned Spanish with RS and I'm starting Arabic soon.
I'd def say go for it :)

Re: Learning Arabic

Thanks everyone; you guys are so great and full of information.

Mano - how does RS work? CD?

Yep, you can find the DVDs pretty much any where or download it from online.
I used the DVDs.

Re: Learning Arabic

Is it free download? I can give a try to that mufta.

Re: Learning Arabic

It's only free if you torrent it lol

Re: Learning Arabic

I don't use torrent :( I got some books from Dr Asrar's Academy me to learn Arabic. They were good. There are also a series of lectures avialable on Youtube to learn Arabic.

Re: Learning Arabic

I mean you could probably find copied cd's of it somewhere, I'm sure.
If not, Arabic has tons of free stuff online. The hardest thing is just doing it on a schedule.

Re: Learning Arabic

I would even try checking out at a public library. I'm sure they'd have something.

Maal e muft dil e be reham :hehe:

Re: Learning Arabic

Rosseta stone is fantastic, the money is well worth it.

However for the finer details of Levantine Arabic it migh not be suitable.

Best pocket phrasebook is the Collins edition for the whole middle east it includes all the 7 forms of Arabic and several other middle eastern languages a real gem all round if your stuck in the ME
