Re: Learn Arabic

Oh my god…such horror…

I wish I could drop Arabic in school but the ministry here enforces it even on non-arabs and you guys want to learn it, well it aint a fun ride kiddies. For one, spoken arabic and book arabic are COMPLETELY (yes 100.00%) different, that means you get no talking-practise if you learn book arabic and dont get to read Quran if you learn conversational arabic. Either way its a bold task fellows I hope you dont shrink from the enormously boring task ahead of you. Ameen.

PS. However beatiful Quranic Arabic may be, the local arabic here is disgusting, talk about de-evolution. An egyptian and an emiratee and a saudi can not understand each other although they all speak arabic, thats how different reigonal arabic is.

I assume you wish to learn it for the purpose of “clearing up” Qurans meaning, which is already very clear in english, you are looking in the wrong direction because you’re arabic will be built upon your english and that will mean you will just be translating it to english in your head to understand it which will be no different to reading traslation. Your THINKING will not change to become like ARAB THINKING and so you wont understand better. ARABs dont translate their arabic to english for use, they translate their thoughts to arabic, thats the beauty of first language, all other second languages can not be like that. Maybe you dont understand what im saying but you will find out at one point how futile it is…

Still, I wish you guys the best of luck! :k:

Re: Learn Arabic

No offense but it pains to see such enthusiasm among Pakistani girls to learn a foriegn language which has got nothing to do with our country's history or whatsoever when many of them cant speak even a word of Punjabi.. sad very sad! :(

Re: Learn Arabic

alright..new york's time is EST...
so the options available to you would be
Friday - 8pm (that's like in half an hour :D)
Saturday - 2pm (that's like in i dunno..ahmm..20 hours?)

Re: Learn Arabic

hey don scare them before they even begin…
& well u normally tend to hate something if it’s forced on u…for instance i hated C++ when i had to learn it in school & now well i like C++ & wish to learn more…so maybe tht’s the case with u & arabic…
& it’s not like an emaraate & a saudi don’t understand each other…ofcourse they do…yes the accent is a little different don’t britishers & americans & australians understand each other…all speak english but with different accents…
& the the arabic spoken in the gulf countries is pretty much the same with just minor changes & yes the other places like egypt , syria , lebanon , morocco…their accent , pronounciation & a few words r different (but again even in english some say pavement while others say footpath , some say apartment while others say flats)
& i understand all arabic speakers except the moroccans…'a few of their words r difficult to understand…
when i being a non-arab can understand…
its sheer stupidity to say tht arabs don’t understand each others arabic 'cause of the minute differences…
even if a few ppl don’t understand ..they don’t constitute the entire community …

& these ppl will basically learn gulf arabic as both the teachers know gulf arabic…

& its quite true first language stays first language & cannot be compared to a second language…ppl can’t normally learn another language well enough to compare themselves with those whose first language it is…
but some do …for instance their was a sheikh who was on tv this ramadhan…& we thought him to be an arab …just to find out tht he was from california…became a muslim later & learned arabic soo well…even his pronounciations were quite good…the environment around u should be such tht u can learn…
&** i agree with ur last paragraph …its quite true…**
