I just finished reading this and really enjoyed it. Initially, I didn’t love the tone of the beginning, but her first example quickly helps the reader understand what she’s getting at.
I think what I enjoyed most about the book is that it doesn’t just blame and vilify patriarchal society for the state of women in society. Rather, she focuses on how women hold themselves back as well as how they are held back by others. She gives specific strategies to change the status quo and help people pursue success in whatever field. She also gives a lot of credit to open-minded and innovative men and women who are making a difference through large and small steps they take.
Anyone else who has read it or is reading it? I definitely recommend it for the men and women out there! It’s not just about “women’s rights” but about effective business practices, and it can benefit all readers.
I’ll also post a few specific points she makes that we can discuss in more details.
Re: Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg, FB COO
^^ good point.
I didn't like how she started the book at all.
I found it a compliation of personal accounts.
However, towards the end I did feel like there were a few good pointers there.
Overall - I wanna give the book a 5/10; her situation is so different. She can afford to be a go getter, she's not a minority race - she's got nannies and a flexible career.
I did learn to ask for things that I wanted at work; to "sit at the table" and definately became more aware of the male female differences in the office.
