LCD TV

I’m considering buying a 42" LCD TV and thinking about getting this one:

I’d like to know if this is a good choice in your opinion. If there are any review sites for LCD TVs please let me know.

It comes with 2 15 watt built in speakers and virtual dolby surround sound. Since I’m not too tech savy when it comes to audio/video, please let me know if I’ll need to purchase additional speakers or will this be enough for starters?

Thanks.

Re: LCD TV

Not a bad deal, but...

Image contrast is too low and it is 1080i. It has to be atleast 3000:1 in LCD. Plus I won't recommend anything other than Sony, Samsung or the most Pioneer for LCD.

Goto BestBuy and spend 2 hours there. Check out the specs of different TVs and their makes. Compare the color and contrast yourself. Buy something which feels good to your eyes. Spending $1500 for something half the quality of something which you can get for $600 more, is not a wise thing in my opinion.

Summary:

Go to store and experience yourself.
Consider these.
Contrast ration of minimum 3000:1 (no matter what sales man says) 15000:1 are the latest breed in LCDs.
1080p (this will give you compatiblity with BluRay movies and PS3 games at the highest possible resolution for human eye). Remember there is huge difference b/w 1080i and 1080p.

Re: LCD TV

I definitely don’t want to get anything half decent and that’s why I narrowed down to few which I thought were good value without sacrificing on quality.

Actually contrast ratio on Philip is 4000:1, which is good right? The price I’m getting this for is $1199. I wouldn’t mind paying a little extra to get something better, but I would rather not spend more than $500 extra for just brand name if both TVs are comparable. I think Sony and Samsung are a bit too overpriced. Sony only makes 40" in LCDs and I don’t want to spend more on a smaller size tv. I think Pioneer’s focus is mainly on Plasmas so I didn’t find any LCDs from them.

I went to circuitcity.com and compared 3 LCDs.

Out of the 3, LG seems really good with a 8000:1 ratio and 2 S video inputs. Plus it has really good consumer review.
I will definitely go to the store and see in person to get a feel.

Thanks.
