Updated at Thursday, December 06, 2007 1950 PST
PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court Bar Association has rejected the charter of demands from APDM and ARD on not including the demand for reinstatement of the sacked judges in the charter. The lawyer leaders severely criticized the charter of demands in the general body meeting of the association. They said that the demand for restoration of the deposed judges was not included in the charter. Demanding the charter of demands, the lawyers demanded from the political parties to include the demand for restoration of judiciary and sacked judges. They said that a country-wide protest would be made if the demand for restoration of the deposed judges is not included in the charter. The lawyer leaders said that the returning of Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto was made possible only due to the lawyers’ movement. This was announced in the meeting to continue the courts’ boycott upto December 17.

ISLAMABAD: Secretary General, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Amin Javed Thursday said the lawyers will reject the Charter of Demands, if the political parties fail to include restoration of sacked judges and the Constitutions in it. Addressing a press conference here at Punjab Bar Council, Amin Javed said freedom of media should also be demanded in the Charter of Demands because real restoration of true democracy can be achieved through independent judiciary and media. He said the political parties will be also be held accountable if they failed to keep on top the demand regarding restoration of the Constitutions and the judiciary. Action will also be taken against those lawyers who appear before the judges who took oath under PCO.
Re: Laywers reject opposition’s “Charter of Demands”
It appears that BB dosen’t really want to demand the restoration of the pre-3rd November judges, which Nawaz does. I am sure they will find some form of words to keep both sides happy in the end, which BB will then duly renege on in a week.

Re: Laywers reject opposition's "Charter of Demands"
Thats because the parties dont have democracy in mind, but rather their own elevation to power... If they truly were for democracy, then they would be on the streets demanding the Supreme court be reinstated...
Re: Laywers reject opposition's "Charter of Demands"
BB has just this morning flown to Dubai. Obviously she is in no hurry to agree to any charter of demands, especially one that calls for pre-3rd November judges to be restored.

The pace of judges taking an oath on the PCO has picked up considerably now after the politicians started splintering (or spluttering) left, right and centre. So that is what they are doing. :)
