Layers of Cultural Values and Social Behavior

Im guessing..

media blitz
education
time

and in the meanwhile

banning political parties that base themselves on ethnicity (ngos are okay..)
ensuring laws of the land dont impact any particular ethnic group (which is going to be tough..especially in sindh)
jailing any politician suspected of playing an ethnicity card

it might also help to address the punjab problem. the other three provinces always seem to feel bullied into submission.

Madhanee, very true..Pakistan is without a doubt a highly racist country. It discourages diversity not encourages it..basically the day Pakistan's power structure shows more fairnes in the way it deals with all ethnic groups..and devolves more powers to the provinces and districts you will see major improvement. Personally I am against banning parties because of ethnicity because again I see it as a means of imposing ideas on one or the other ethnic group..

Not having read the responses, I have to agree with the original post by Irem that there are many layers of cultural diversity existing in our culture. You take a migrant Pathan worker, put him in the middle of Liberty Market in Lahore or Zamzama in Karachi and trust me, he’ll feel so out of place, his head will spin. However, educate him, give him access to knowledge, expose him to the world around him, and you’ll see the change in him, although it will be gradual at first. Our society is diverse racially, making Pakistan such a wonderfully colorful nation, yet our “pak watan” is united under one flag where in lies the beauty of our people. Although we are Punjabi, Pathan, Balochi, Sindhi, Kashmiri, etc., we are united by our common religion and the fact that we are part of a greater union of regions which our Founding Fathers put their sweat and blood into, in order to bring into existence, as recently as only 50+ years ago.

God bless Pakistan :flower2:

^ Yup my mistake.. let me rephrase what I said..pakistans school system promotes a level of institutional racism. That isn't fixed against Indians..as it goes..Sindhis are lazy, Balochis are backward..Pashtuns are aggressive and dumb fighters..these are negative stereotypes which were left over from the British...and have gotten worse with time.

After reading these posts one comes to this conclusion that among other ethnic groups pathan has the fame of being ignorant and un-civilized.

^ a fact which is total rubbish. Many of the cream students in Pakistan...have been pashtun. Whether it is in the civil service or fields like nuclear sciences they have excelled everywhere..like everything the dumb/ignorant pathan is a racist stereotype.

Exactly, but the people of the plains don't seem to be aware of this fact. Read all posts and see how prejudice they are towards highlanders.

My take on the post is...

Are the various peoples happy?

If so....

Rejoice in the variety. The various traditions. Keep them alive and cherish their way of life.

Tell stories about them and respect them.

If people were exactly the same the world over...what would be interesting or special about them?

What if they were rare dolphins or turtles? Wouldn't all conservationists be out to save their way of life?

To me people and differences in culture should be concidered the same way. More so.
