Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

Statment by leading lawyers in Times newspaper during the dictators visit to UK.

Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

Sir, President Musharraf is coming to London this weekend at a time when (despite the lifting of the state of emergency) a number of judges and lawyers who protested are still being detained.
They include the former Chief Justice, Iftikhar Chaudhry, and the president of the Supreme Court Bar, Aitzaz Ahsan. Former Justice (retired) Rana Bhagwandas was also put under house arrest earlier this month.
Lawyers from around the world have called on the Pakistan authorities to provide effective constitutional protections, lift all restrictions on the judiciary, release the lawyers and judges arbitrarily detained, and allow lawyers to exercise their freedom of expression and assembly.
We wish to stress that Pakistan must re-establish and comply with internationally recognised standards for the rule of law; the independence of the judiciary and the legal profession must be respected in the interests of justice and economic development; the Pakistan Government should cease arresting, detaining and harassing judges and lawyers arbitrarily, and should release those currently detained; fundamental freedoms (eg, of expression and assembly) should be afforded to all citizens, including lawyers and the judiciary.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

Huh!

Lawyers have been breaking law and creating disorder for a while now. How can they even talk about law and order.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

They've been protesting for their rights. They've studied law and practice it. They definately know more about law than the metric-paas mumbo jumbo talking politicians that are hungry to take the up-for-grabs seats.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

Do they also teach taking oath under PCO at law schools - or only if and when it suits the lawyers. :)

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

Yes they teach all aspects of the law, and they certainly teach to work in the best interest of the common people. (Missing people, torture, unlawful amendment of the constitution that does not favor the public)

:)

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

As I said earlier. It is simple! *you can't break the very law in the name of defending it. *

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

First of all can you tell which law have these signatories broken. Secondly none fo the lawyers now in jail in Pakistan illegally altered the constitution nor did they declare emergency to save their kursi nor have people simply disappeared under their orders. What a wishy washy third rate dictator you are trying to defend and justify him breaking all the laws of Pakistan.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

Protesting and raising voices of discontent is not known as breaking the law. *Beating and charging at those who protest, is breaking of the law in itself. *

It's a known fact that everytime there's any protest, civil or not, police must use unnecessary force. Why? What for?

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

because of the insecurities from which the illegal dictator suffers.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

:hmmm: I believe it’s called ‘guilt’.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

I know what you are saying.

Peaceful protests are totally kosher and halal. And nobody stops them. Just the other day, 20+ of our law enforcement officers died protecting the protesting lawyers.

The problem is that lawyers are not always peaceful. They have often done un-halal pun during these protests.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

Says someone who thinks of Musharraf as law enforcer/defender.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

Inshallah… Pakistan deserves the rule of law and justice for its people… History shows that God is just, and dictators all go out the same way, as will Mush, dejected, humiliated or put down.

When history speaks of this man, he will be remembered the way all dictators are, as a hypocrite, with no respect for human rights or rule of law…

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

For example?

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

You name me one movement in history that was succesful and did not resul in breaking the law?

The point of protesting is to get the attention of your dictator... If the Lawyers lit candles and sat on the street, Mush and his supporters, people like you, would carry on with human rights violations and desecration of the contitution without giving it a second thought.

Not only would you carry on with your ruthless destruction of the country, but you would cite the "peaceful" democtaration as a victory for yourselves...

So no, when your dealing with a ruthless and evil hypocrite regime, being nice will not get you anywhere.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

Tell lawyers to go back to work, he will get attention when he got time.. :D

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

PP1 bro!

As I said, Lawyers must not break the law in the name of protecting it. They must not and cannot attack law enforcement officers. Time and again it has been proven that law enforcement officers are doing the ultimate duty to the nation by giving their lives in order to protect lawyers or others.

The law-breaking movements you talk about almost always end up in spilling a lot of blood of innocents.

*Just remember Jinnah's example. He never and I mean not for a day went to Jail, because he knew that law breakers are bad for any nation and any movement.
*

Off course British-Indian political party system meant that lower level Muslims League workers did break law (Direct Action day is an example), and guess what, that stupid action by Mulsim League Bengalis resulted in 1000's of deaths in Kolkatta, Bihar, and East Bengal.

So calm down, follow the example of Jinnah and quit supporting anarchists please.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

^^ Burqa Bro, don't worry Gov have taken some actions they are trying to cut their financing from abroad. Lawyers movement will soon become history.

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

And what’re we gonna do about the money Musharraf keeps dumping in his pockets from the past 8+ years in the “name of” finding OBL and Associates…

Now we know it was never the intention, maybe one party didn’t read the contract so clearly :hehe:

Niiiiiiice…hypocrism at its best!

Re: Lawyers call for a restoration of law and order in Pakistan

^^ when we will get proof of that, we will start ranting against Musharraf too. Lets keep the topic to lawyers.. only ...
