Lawyers appear in courts despite PBC’s strike call

LAHORE: Pakistan Bar Council members (PBC) and several other active participants of the lawyers’ movement are appearing in the Lahore High Court in violation of PBC’s strike call. Elected members of the PBC, Ramzan Chaudhry and his wife Tayyeba Ramzan and Latif Khosa appeared in the court on Thursday. Another PBC elected member Kazim Khan and former SCBA secretary Ali Akbar, LHCBA former secretary Abid Saqi, Punjab Bar Council member Khurram Khosa and PML-N lawyer Naseem Bhutta also appeared before the court. Advocate Ghulam Sarwar said the lawyers appearing before the courts had double standards. PBC vice chairman Aziz Akbar Baig said the legal fraternity should boycott those lawyers who were appearing before the courts. He said PBC member Kazim Khan had apologised for appearing before the court. He said Kazim had assured him that he would not appear again.

Lawyers going to PCO court to be punished

Lawyers have warned that their colleagues appearing before the judges of the Lahore High Court, Bahawalpur bench, appointed under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) will be taken to task from Friday (today). A decision to this effect was taken in the general council meeting of the District Bar Association on Thursday. Bar president Yahya Khan presided over the meeting. According to the decision, lawyers will block the way to the court on the high court’s premises and the lawyers trying to violate lawyers’ boycott of PCO judges would be humiliated and their faces would be blacked with dirt and paint. Yahya said the district bar was forced to take the decision after reports that some lawyers had appeared before the PCO judge in the past days. The lawyers also took out a rally, holding placards and raising slogans for the reinstatement of judges sacked on Nov 3. Police did not stop the rally even though it was in violation of Section 144.
