Laundry Detergent

Which laundry detergent do you use and would you recommend it? To save money I started using Purex, but I feel like its not as good as Tide. But Tide is quite expensive as well. Any recommendations? If everyone says Tide, I will probably end up going back to it.

Re: Laundry Detergent

yes I use tide

Re: Laundry Detergent

I use Ariel for white clothes and Tide for colored ones. I feel Tide isn’t v good for the white clothes.

Re: Laundry Detergent

Tide

Re: Laundry Detergent

I use Tide as well but there’s not a lot of laundry right now.

If I had to do a lot of loads, I’d look for something cheaper as well.

There’s also Gain…my husband has suggested Gain many times but I like Tide better :hehe:

I make my own laundry detergent. Add oxy clean to it as well. For stains I use a mixture of dawn and hydrogen peroxide . Takes toughest stain out like poop stains, underarm stains, and dirt on collar and cuffs

Re: Laundry Detergent

really tide is expensive, in UAE its not expensive its reasonable.

Re: Laundry Detergent

we use Tide…it’s the best…

Laundry Detergent

Members Mark from Sam’s Club. It’s cheaper, and gets the job done

Re: Laundry Detergent

I use Tide Cold Water, buy it from Costco. I didn’t think it was that much more expensive than others. But technically you can save money by using cold water for washing so that should balance out the extra cost of the detergent. Also a big fan of the Kirkland detergent, unfortunately they don’t have a cold water version.

Re: Laundry Detergent

I use Purex free and clear ( for sensitive/ excema skin) when it goes on sale for $1.99 at Walgreens. I use it only on the kids clothes, linens and towels. For my husband’s clothes and mine I use Sun or Xtra (also when they go on sale esp Sun for $1.99, a bigger size). I wash white clothes separately and use bleach in it. I add Oxy Clean or use shout ( again the generic cheap versions especially for Oxy Clean), if needed. The job gets done fine usually. I would get a heart attack if I used Tide. Its so expensive but after reading your replies, I am contemplating buying a bottle and using it for my son’s clothes as he gets horrible stains on them. Shall be interesting to see the results.

Re: Laundry Detergent

How cool is that! Do you scent it as well?

I didn’t know that. I always use cold water but had no idea it impacted the cost much. I will try Tide Cold Water next.

No I.don’t scent it. I add a capful of vinegar to the load so it gets all smells out. I’m not a big fan of scents on clothes just don’t want tgem to have any kind of smell. Smells cause me headaches and after using less chemicals in our household I can’t even stand in the detergent or cleaning aisle of the supermarket. All I smell are chemicals

Re: Laundry Detergent

yeh I think hot water uses almost 15 times more kW/h than cold water so it can make a difference to your utilities. The point of the tide cold water detergent I think is that it’s strong enough to remove soil that typically requires hot water. That being said because I’m paranoid, I still wash towels and bedsheets in hot water.

Re: Laundry Detergent

I use cold water so clothes don’t bleed color I guess…or so I was always taught and now its stuck in my head…lol.

Re: Laundry Detergent

well you’re right, hot water is harsher on clothes and can cause shrinking and wrinkling and affect colour. Cold water is generally better for most clothes, especially delicates. But like I said I’m paranoid so I’m still not convinced bacteria dies as effectively with cold water so for bedsheets and towels I still use the hot wash.

Re: Laundry Detergent

I use Tide, and Downy for fabric softener.

Re: Laundry Detergent

Sunlight: Yes, I would recommend the detergent, because it’s great at cleaning laundry properly and strongly avoids discoloration.

Re: Laundry Detergent

Have a large family, with many guests coming and going, laundry has always been a PITA. and it can be expensive.

Never used Tide until a year ago when I found it for $.89 c a bottle when a local store was doing inventory. We seldom use hot , hot water for clothes unless it is whites, sheets , towels. Washed clothes in lukewarm/cold for years. I have quite a few bottles of Tide cold water, it works well in cold and warm temps. I am OCD about my clothes etc, stains, smells.

Prior to Tide I used Surf for many years , and Purex . Not a single complaint with Surf. Purex is still used for sheets, towels etc.
