Laughing at Others

This was today’s Ayat in my Ayat of the Day Calender:

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

“O you who believe! Let not some men among you laugh at others: it may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): nor let some women laugh at others: it may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): nor defame not be sarcastic to each other, nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames…”

Surah Al-Hujurat 49-11

Just thought that it would be a good reminder reading this, because I see a quite a few of these things going on here at GS sometimes.

Re: Laughing at Others

@Afshi: Surah Al Hujrat is itself very good chapter. mostly stressed on the piety of Momin while negating the concept of family/tribal/national superiority.

Jazakumullah for sharing with us.

Sometimes we thing think that what we say or think or do is right but thats not always so.

Indeed a good reminder!

May Allah give us all the strength and patience to follow the footsteps of our beloved Prophet Muhammed (saw) inshallah Amin.

Re: Laughing at Others

Thanks for sharing. This always is a good reminder.

Re: Laughing at Others

Thanks for the hint afshi. I will work on not laughing at you from now onwards

Re: Laughing at Others

Glad to see that you're striving to become a better Muslim.

In fact, we should all continue to strive for this. . It's an ongoing Jihad with ourselves.

Re: Laughing at Others

salam alaikum sister everything youve said so far is true, but youve said so little there is potentially areas where what you are saying is hugely incorrect in my opinion.

it would help to know exactly which subject area that you are warning about in your summary

Re: Laughing at Others

I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean by me saying so little.

It is an Ayah from the Qur'an. What more explanation do you want?

Re: Laughing at Others

well thats one thing youve not posted the full ayat and equally youve not mentioned the situations where 'youve seen this on gs'

Re: Laughing at Others

I just posted what was on my calender. Feel free to post the rest of the Ayah.

As for the situations where I've seen it on GS, there are plenty, please search around.

Re: Laughing at Others

ok, i guess if you need to search around its not what i feared and like i said earlier everything youve said so far is true. may peace be with you

the full ayat, m khan translation:

O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter are better than the former. Nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former. Nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it to insult one's brother after having Faith *. And whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).*

Laughing at Others

Jazakallah khair,

Re: Laughing at Others

Sarcasm is such a trend now.

Laughing at Others

N ppl who do it won admitt they do!

Re: Laughing at Others

Does it matter? Aren't we supposed to look at ourselves first?
