Latif to retire**

Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has announced that he will quit international cricket after the World Cup. Latif, 34, retired from Tests last November.
Latif’s career has been dogged by controversy. He was a key figure in helping to bring match-fixing to the public’s attention in the 1990s, and his own career suffered after he accused team-mates of throwing matches on Pakistan’s 1994-95 series in Zimbabwe. He subsequently gave evidence against former colleagues during Pakistan’s judicial investigations into match-fixing.

Earlier this week Latif was again embroiled in a row when he was accused by Adam Gilchrist of making a racist comment towards him during a World Cup Pool game. Latif, who strenuously denied the claim, was cleared of the charge by the International Cricket Council and briefly threatened to sue the Australian side.

For much of his career he vied with Moin Khan for the position of Pakistan’s first choice wicketkeeper. In 34 Tests Latif scored 1385 runs at 22.72 and took 102 catches and 10 stumpings. Including last Tuesday’s game against Australia, he has played in 144 ODIs, scoring 1332 runs at 19.24 and taking 150 catches and 34 stumpings.

When time comes Rashid Latif will retire but so does Moin, both are around the same age, he won't play forever he will eventually retire.

This shows your knowledge about cricket, not giving respect to a great keeper, the best Pakistan ever had.

If Moin was going to play it had to be in this World Cup. His career is over - and a brilliant one it was too :k: He won us a lot of our past WC matches with some savage late hitting and his constant chatter always kept the boys on their toes.

Rashid’s place will go to Kamran Akmal who looks a decent player as well so no worries there. Latif is one of our best ever w/keepers and a good bat as well. Still a good player as we saw against the Aussies.

Yes i Agree. Moin has won us many matches with the bat. But Latif os no mug either, last year he was superb with the bat too, so lets wish him and Pakistan success.

Though after he retires, i will like to see Moin coming back and play for atleast two years and teach Kamran Akmal some more skills before he is ready to take oer completely.

Pakistan has been too lucky over the last decade to have such talented and special wicket keepers. Other South Asian teams have struggled to have consistency behind the stumps, SriLanka and India have both had problems.

Moin was a Star in both the 92 and 99 world cups due to his tiger 'never say die' attitude. However, in recent times, after being given captaincy in 2000 and having a bad series as both captain and keeper, the PCB turned to latif. I woon't ever forget his batting in the 99 world cup. He was the man!

However, Latif has always been the slightly better keeper. Won't ever forget his catch against India in the 96 semi final when he dived to his right to catch Azharuddin. That was going way past first slip!

I hope Rashid has a good world cup for his sake and the sake of the country. I dont rate Kamran Akmal or Atiq Uzzaman much. I hope they give Kamran Farhat another chance, he is a Moin Khan type keeper, talented with the bat too.

Pakistan Zindabad.

Its Humayon Farhat...not Kamran.

Humayon looked pretty average. I beleive Kamran Akmal would make it in to the team...once Latif retires.

You are quite correct Sharaabi...
It is Humayun Farhat. I liked him and his brother Imran farhat who is a very very talented left handed opener. One day, I hope to see Imran Farhat opening with Imran Nazir. Humayon farhat is still young, and has quite a lot to learn, but i believe he is more talented then Kamran Akmal, and a better batsmen too.

Kher, lets see what happens in the coming year or so.....
