Latif offered coaching job by Afghanistan

FAISALABAD: Rashid Latif has been asked by the Afghanistan Cricket Federation to coach their junior team in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) trophy early next year in India.

Latif, who pulled out of the Test series against South Africa after stepping down as captain, said Saturday: “They want me to act as their coach in the tournament. But I have yet to take any decision as I am going to make myself available for Pakistan’s tour to New Zealand in December.”

The Afghanistan junior team toured Karachi recently on the invitation of the cricket academy run by Latif. The 34-year-old who has had a chequered career as a Pakistan player between 1992 and 2003 said he would be leading his domestic team, Allied Bank in the first class domestic season that starts next week. “I have decided to play for my bank at the domestic level as I still want to remain in contention for the tour to New Zealand and particularly if India tours Pakistan early next year,” he said. “I have not made up my mind to retire as yet.”

Latif has been replaced in the Pakistan team as wicketkeeper by Moin Khan in the Test series against South Africa. Moin was recalled after 30 months on the sidelines. —Reuetrs

Anything that keeps him away from the Pakistani team would be really appreciable.

Its not like Moin is doing anything wonderful.
3rd class keeping and 10 or 20 runs is not impressive.

ditto :k:

double ditto :k:

It seems that with the given talentn of wicket keepers in the country, there is a clear trade-off decision need to be made between batting and **wicket keeping **skillsof the w/keeping personnel.

Moin's keeping has been below standard so far in this series. I would rather see a brilliant keeper who can bat a little than other way around.

yeah, we need some one who can actually keep wicket good.. and bat a lil bit..

This is news is as amusing as self-declared bikini wearing Miss Afghanistan showing off in Miss Earth Competition.. onlydifferenceis that Latif should wear burqah there in that dangerous land which Miss Afghanistan recently shrugged off..

another ditto

another ditto :k:

I think we dont need a mediocre wicketkeeper. Neither do we need a wicket keeper who cant bat at all. Lets not try and bring the standard down just because we havent had someone who was good in both departments. One way to go is ask Taufeeq if he is up for it. Personally I wouldnt do that casue he is an excellent slip fielder. Inzimam has safe hands in the slip but he is not as acrobatic as Taufeeq. We can try and Atiq and Humayun Farhat. As far as Kamran Akaml is concerned I think he is an average keeper and I dont think he has the right technique to bat agaisnt quality bowlers. He can throw the bat around but his footwork is minimal.

Whats will all the dittos?

Moin is way better than Rashid though, besides, my point is not to keep Moin forever, we ultimately need a new keeper...

I am afraid you are from minority who think this. In batting yes Moin has an edge over Rashid but in keeping Rashid is a mile ahead.

yet another ditto…:k:

Instead of recalling Moin, Pakistan should have gone with a youngster, which they didn't.
But since they have called him into the international arena, then Moin should be atleast given a proper time to show his worth.
Most of you have not noticed but Moin dropped Smith earlier on the day, when Shabbir bowled to Smith on the leg side and moin dived too late to get the catch.
If Rashid had been in the spot, he would have definitly caught the catch.

another double ditto :k:

:hehe:

u’ve guessed it rite … another ditto! :hehe:

Rashid might well have caught it, but in the ODI's before the tests he was dropping catches much easier than the one Moin dropped so there is no definite about his catching either.

r we discussing latif's batting/keeping or r we discussing the coaching job????

or r we suggesting moin wud make a better coach for the afghanistan team????

much easier than the one Moin dropped off Sami, Ehsan bhai? :D

and oh about the coaching job, well if he isnt selcted in NZ series then its almost bye bye for him from Pakistan team, then he should go for the job if getting good bucks, otherwise he was doing a much better job with his academy ,already produced two worldclass cricketers in Younis and Sami.
