I think Electronic cigarettes are a good piece of research work. I know WHO and several other firms are still in the process of determining whether it does help in the cessation of smoking eventually , but think about it, this is a new thing and ultimately it can evolve into something bigger that will help the smokers quit successfully.

Brentuximab (Adcetris)

Is a new drug for Hodgkin lymphoma and a type of non Hodgkin lymphoma called anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). First new drug to treat Cancer in 30 years. Unlike chemotherapy, it only targets the cancer cells.

Those of you who have had chemotherapy or know someone who went through the treatment, would know how tough it is. Traditional chemotherapy kills both good and bad cells, it cannot differentiate. It also damages the bone marrow and stem cells resulting in lower blood counts. Thats why if regular chemo does not work, doctors recommend heavier doses along with a bone marrow transplant.

Initially it was given to patients who already have had a bone marrow transplant and could not resist any more chemo, but now they are also giving it to new patients as well. Its a revolutionary drug that has minor side effects compared to traditional chemotherapy, which often times lead to a bone marrow transplant.

Only downside is the price right now. Treatment can cost from at least USD 100k to 300k. A 50mg vial costs around USD 5000, and on average 3 vials are used per cycle. Depending on the rate of remission, treatment can continue for up to 16 cycles.

I can only wish that some rich Arab buy seattle genetics and takeda group, and make this drug accessible to everyone at lower rates.

*PS. The information above is my personal research that I have done over the past 2 years, and some of it could be outdated or inaccurate. *
