His bowling action, what do you guys think about it? Is it legal?
His new hairstyle:
There is a lot of talk about his action. Look what Collingwood says about him in his column: “There’s some talk that Sri Lanka paceman Lasith Malinga might be playing at Edgbaston.
I’ve never faced him but they do say it takes a little bit of time to get used to him.
He has a very round-arm action so apparently when you’re batting the ball appears to come out of the umpire’s stomach!
I’m sure we’ll have some practice in the nets simulating where the ball will be coming from, using our bowling machine Merlyn or just throwing it from that height.”
Jayawardene comments:
*The most exciting addition to Sri Lanka’s squad, however, is the 22-year-old paceman, Lasith Malinga - nicknamed “the Slinger” for his extraordinary round-arm catapulting delivery.
“He’s quite difficult, especially with his action and the pace that he generates, and he does offer us something different,” said Jayawardene. “Every time he plays he puts his hand up and says he wants to have a crack at the English. It would be great to give him that opportunity, but it all depends upon what kind of combination we want to play on the Edgbaston wicket.” *
Another comment:
*But Sri Lanka are threatening to unleash their remarkable pace bowling slinger, Lasith Malinga.
The height of his arm, and general appearance, make him a not dissimilar spectacle to a discus thrower. And at 90 miles, he is quite a proposition. *
dhobi_bhai, I went into hibernation I’ve been visiting GS since 2000, I used to write with OASis nick, but I lost password for that. Since then, I’ve been on GS off and on. I should get a Senior member title based on my join date
OASis looks like all the oldies are coming back to the forum. I used to write about the same time as you with the likes of Malik (Sher-e-Pakistan) and a few others. Most of my comments were in the Politics forum though.
I lost my password as well :-) so now from being "Rational" I have switched to "Rational2".
I would hate to face this guy as his action is so unorthrodox. However since he has not been called thus far i will accept his action as legit
I know the New Zealanders had quite a problem facing him and had several complaints against...one of them being...."We cannot see where the ball is coming from!"
The real mystery is, how does he manage to keep the ball within stumps with this action? If I tried to bowl like that, I am certain the ball wouldn't pass within 10 feet of the batsman.
