LASIK

aka laser eye surgery to correct one’s vision…

What’s the verdict on it…Recently, I’ve heard mixed reviews on this…About an year ago, they showed outcome of a research study on city Tv (also known as cp24 amongst Torontonians) that was done on people who had had LASIK about 10 years ago…After ten years, a huge percentage of people complained about severe dryness in eyes and loss of vision at night.

I, myself, have a prescription of -6.5 for one eye and -6.75 for the other; wore glasses since grade 6 till grade 10, then switched to contacts, and then went back to wearing glasses about a year ago when I was experiencing dryness and redness in eyes which, accoring to the doc, was due to wearing contacts for extended period of time…I asked him if I may opt for Lasik and he didn’t support the idea…

Recently, one of my uncles had lasik done in US and paid around $20,000 for both eyes…Another aunty got it done in Pakistan and paid Rs. 40,000 for both eyes ( huge price difference, ain’t it )…So far, all is good and no complaints whatsoever…

Please share your input on this…Anything that everyone who may be contemplating it should be aware of…Any study that you have read or heard…Care to share with us???

Re: LASIK

WHAT!!!?????? $20,000 for both eyes!!!!!!

That's outrageous! The price in USA should be around $3,600 to $5,000 for BOTH eyes!!!!

I know 2 brothers who got a combined bill for $6000.

Re: LASIK

Most surgeons performing Lasik/laser surgery are usually wearing glasses......that says a lot. I mean if it was safe/guaranteed then I'm sure they would be the first to get it done.

Re: LASIK

saw recently in a newspaper that a woman lost her eyesight on left side because during the operation some bacteria went in her eye (behind the lense), nd after few months her eyesight gradually reduced, so now she cannot see with that eye.

Re: LASIK

I wana done this eye surgery thing but i m so scared
In uk £395 per eye

Re: LASIK

My best friend got Lasik done in Chicago for around $4000 for both eyes...she is really happy.

Mom paid about the same. One eye is good, the other will need to be operated on again.

Re: LASIK

i look at what I gain vs what I can lose.

so I gain that I dont have to wear lenses or glasses..although my understanding is that reading glasses may come sooner then..

what I lose, ability to see, ability to see clearly, issues with night vision, issue with seeing halos.

I would rather deal with the hassle of glasses and lenses.

Now, if I was somoene who was considereg legally blind without glasses like one of my uncles who has like -9 or -11 then it may be worth it.

Re: LASIK

@ wishmaker
that $20,000 figure can't be right. check with your uncle again I am sure he will correct you.

I have been considering this procedure for sometime now.
My prescription is -3.25 both eyes. I had my initial assessments done recently and was okayed by docs to go ahead. But I am still undecided (cost being one factor, $3,800).

Re: LASIK

The LASIK laser eye surgery is really comfortable for eye patients as it will really provide you the right results and clear your eye vision as it is done to reshape the cornea with a precise laser. The laser eye surgery is done on outpatient facility centre and there is no need of Patient stay at hospital.
