I know lots of people who have had it done and most successfully (in terms of daytime eyesight). But the permanent dry eyes are a problem. My cousin also was one of the few whose eyes it damaged and she needed a corneal transplant.

If it’s the Laser surgeon telling you that contact lenses damage your eyes, then I would take it with a large pinch of salt.

Providing all the guidelines are followed and you don’t get a nasty, potentially damaging infection (can be avoided), contact lenses are safe. The most common side effect that can happen is again, dry eyes, but that can be reversed by not wearing them any longer. And even though hard lenses are out of fashion, they have even less side effects - better vision and no dryness problems than soft.

Here’s the point for me: I know lots of doctors and surgeons who wear glasses and haven’t gone for this and when I ask them why, they say their colleagues in the profession would never do it themselves because of the risk and ‘normal’ side effects, so they wouldn’t either.

He said this because he tried to persuade me to get it done.

Lily how can an invasive surgery be safer then something like contact lens? As long as they are used properly that is. I can’t believe your optometrist recommended LASIK for you. Since its recommended for people whose vision is worse then 4.00. At least that’s what my optometrist said even though they are partnered with the LASIK place in town.

They told me to get lasik or the other one , it was my choice to get LASIK done and I got standard one which was quite expensive compared to normal.
