Laser Hair Removal

Has anyone successfully removed facial hair by using laser? Please share your experiences?

I have heard Yag laser is one of the best in the market and works on permanenetly removing hair/ reducing thick course hair to fine hair.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Also, what is the best laser in the Market for permanent hair removal for our skin type?

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Stoppit will come up with valuable info:hmmm:She actually has given me an incentive, she is really sweet.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

My personal opinion is that electrolysis is a lot more effective on the face. With laser, you run the risk of getting patches if the laser burns the skin instead of the actual hairs. The hair has to be thick enough for the laser to 'capture' it, or else it will laser your face instead.

I haven't had it done on my face. Had it done on other areas .... it's good. Doesn't permanently remove your hair, but it does slow down the growth and make it thinner.

One caution I would advise you from experience, wait to get laser done until after you are done having kids. Your hormones change during pregnancy, which can make the hair come back, especially if you have a boy (I am assuming this happens cause you have more testosterone on your body). Laser is not cheap. It's at least a couple of thousand dollars depending on what you are getting lasered. So just make your decision wisely.

I've heard it works best on people with fair skin and dark hair because it works by breaking down melanin. I have fair facial hair so would it work on that? And how safe is it to use on the face?

I'm really thinking of getting my legs done though, it'll save me having to go through painful waxing sessions every month.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

I found a good deal... $500 for full face. $100 per treatment anything after the 6th treatment is $50.

They use a Yag laser, I read that was the best on the market for our skin type. I understand that it wont fully eliminate hair, but if it makes my thick course hair fine... that works for me.

I'm trying to figure out what is the best route to go, and what is the best laser...

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Please search this part of the forum for 'Laser', I have written many posts on the subject.

In a nutshell, go for electrolysis. Do not risk the Laser induced growth that can happen on the facial region (and shoulders, upper arms, upper back, for both men and women).

I would also like to add, that since the 'hairy women' thread a number of members have approached me via pm to say that Laser has made their facial hair worse and what can they do about it.

This is something I am continually warning about but since women are (naturally) shy to admit something like this publicly, there don't seem to be many women coming forward to say 'Yes, this happened to me'. Therefore anyone who hasn't had it done is under the assumption that it's quite rare.

Just don't take the risk.

However, electrolysis is a modality based almost purely on the skill of the electrologist so it's very important that you seek out a very good one. Otherwise you will get poor treatment (plucking instead of properly treated hairs) and even permanent scarring. Some temporary skin reaction is inevitable but you need to be able to distinguish between what is normal and expected and what is bad treatment.

I have said this many times before (please read my previous threads!!!) in detail but the YAG Laser is best for the coarsest and darkest hairs. It provides exceptional results on the bikini and underarms. On the legs, where the hair is a mixture, it will only destroy the thick haired follicles leading to about a 80% reduction. Unlike the Alexandrite (if you are upto Type III), where you can get reasonably good results on the arms, where the hair is finer, the YAG won't be as effective. I'm sure you can infer from this the results on the face.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

I also want to say that a lot of what is being say 'YAG is one of the best on the market' etc is nothing but marketing from clinics. There is very little unbiased information on Laser on the internet.

Nd:YAG is a type of laser crystal that produces a wavelength suitable for desi and black skin types (III upwards). There many machines from different manufacturers which have the Nd:YAG.

Two of the best are the GentleYAG (by Candela) and the Apogee Elite (by Cynosure) which has both a YAG and Alex crystal so that they can treat all skin types with one machine.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

So wait, why are you saying Yag laser is bad for the facial area? It just slows the growth down? Doesn't permanently stop it?

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Please search 'Laser' for all my posts. I have explained it in detail before.

In a nutshell (1) the hair is too fine and won't be effected. people spend a year or more trying to reduce it with barely any reduction (2) 'laser induced growth' - when hairs in ''hormonally charged'' areas that are too fine to absorb enough energy from the laser and instead are strengthened or more (new) follicles created. this is what many, many women experience.

Not just the YAG, ALL laser is bad for the face but YAG especially.

And there is no such thing as 'slowing down growth' with Laser. Either a follicle is destroyed, or it is weakened (finer hair) or no effect.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

My hair is extremely thick and course, hmmmm. I'm thinking of just trying out one treatment to check out the effects.

Do you have any stories of permanent scarring and burns?

I will definitely go through your threads when I have a little more time.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Look, it's up to you what you do I'm just advising from my knowledge on this topic.

Ok, so if you have thick and coarse (which I really doubt it is compared to the bikini line/legs), you will eliminate the first issue of the hair being too fine and you may well destroy those follicles. You are still at risk of Laser induced growth in the surrounding area. For example, some women with coarse sideburn hairs, get those treated and it goes reasonably well, only to discover that the hairs on the cheeks have increased.

Scarring and burns are much more rare than induced growth. I know one person who got hypopigmentation on the face.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Desi Beauty, why don't you try electrolysis first? It works.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

I heard it's more expensive and hurts more...

How is that possibly when the laser doesn't touch that area? Like if i get my side burns done the laser device (which is a circle) will not touch the cheeks, does it have to come in direct contact to induce growth?

Re: Laser Hair Removal

My friend has been doing laser on her face. She had a lot of facial hair (not fine hair) on face and neck area too. They have def. decreased, but are not fully gonne, though she has been doing treatment for almost 2 yrs now. She is lucky, she doesnt get marks easily, but though have gotten two burn marks, for which the clinic promised to treat.

Personally I just burn my facial hair, so much easier than waxing, threading and laser. Not tht I have tried any of those on my face haha

burn your facial hair? HOW?

I wish i knew this when i got laser hair removal done. Wait iknew it but i chose to ignore. I was very pleased with the results but when i got pregnant, the hair came back. Sadly the pregnancy ended in a miscarraige so i was left with facial hair and no baby! I am hoping to get another round done after our family is complete IA.

Ira, what kind of laser was used on you? How many treatments did you get before you saw results?

Re: Laser Hair Removal

Ira, how many treatments had you had and how far apart?
