Laser Hair Removal

I’ve been considering it for a while now for unwanted facial hair but I heard a Dermatologist on ARY say it’s not suitable for South-Asian skin no matter how fair, that it’s meant for Type 1/2 (European skin).

Is this true? I asked a lady who does laser and she said it’s perfectly suited for all skin types and they change the settings accordingly..

Anyone else had it done?

Re: Laser Hair Removal

i would go to a derm who carries the 2nd/3rd generation machines....the earlier models are not good with asian skin.

Re: Laser Hair Removal

it's not to do with newer machines.

even if you are fair, you will have enough melanin in your skin that you will be needed to be treated by a Nd:Yag laser.
Alexandrite's are used for white skin but a south asian skin would be risking burns with that. Yes, you could use it at a low setting but fine facial hairs require higher settings anyhow.
Yag's also work best on coarse dark hairs; finer hairs are not so responsive.

It is becoming increasingly apparently that any kind of laser is not really the best choice on the face, neck, shoulders, upper arms.. basically anywhere where the hair is fine. as there is a significant chance of 'induced growth', whereby you end up increasing hair growth or thickness.

unless you have a serious amount of facial hair (a lot and thick), i would not go down that route and try electrolysis instead.

Yag's are great for underarms/bikini area/legs, though.
