I for one am fed up with the waxing and shaving and threading etc and have been looking into laser haor removal.
Was wondering if any of you have had it done?
Does it hurt?
Does the result justify the cost?
Thanks!

Asian skin tones must be particularly aware that they make sure the right laser for their skin is being used otherwise common problems are burning and scarring. It’s also essential to find an experienced place where the aesthetician is skilled and will use the right setttings, otherwise it will seem like it’s working in the beginning but you will keep going back for treatment after treatment because the hair will keep returning… sometimes they do this to get more money from you.
Please read the forum! I spent a long time researching and asking questions before i started recently on my underarms. Only had one treatment yet so I can’t comment much.
Also, do make sure you go for laser and not IPL! the faq on that forum will tell you more about this.
As far as pain goes, the saying is ‘if it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t work’, which is why these pain-free IPL things don’t really do anything.
Also, even at best, Laser is permanent hair REDUCTION, it won’t make you completely hair free but if done correctly only very fine barely visible hairs will be left.
Re: Laser hair removal
I asked a doctor and he quoted me 200 euros for face, one sitting and he is using sheer light laser. about 5-6 sittings are needed.
Re: Laser hair removal
Normally it's around 6 sessions every 4-6 weeks. Afterwards a treatment is needed every few months which Eventually decreases to about once a year.
It is NOT a permanent hair removal remedy, hairs willgrow back with the hormone surge in pregnancy or if there are female gland problems.
It is however worth a try, as a last resort, when other solutions fail.
Painful, but some centres like Harley Medical group in the UK, offer local anaesthetic, which mmakes it tolereable.
Good luck !
Re: Laser hair removal
I had some IPL sessions over the duration of this year on my face, I was quoted that I'd probably need 6-8 sessions but I've noticed a dramatic reduction in my hair after three treatments and will probably only need one more towards the end of this year. Worst part was having to use a foil razor to trim the hair in between sessions rather than waxing or threading but it's not as bad as it sounds.
Even if I don't end up totally 100% har free for life, it's still been worth it for me. I had PCOS and was literally getting to the stage where I had to plan my social calender around threading/waxing sessions.

no probs. i feel sometimes people think i'm a killjoy but you know sooo many girls just go into LHR without doing any research and are completely unaware of what they are undertaking and the risks. it's a pretty serious cosmetic procedure, not a bit of light to kill the hair follicle. i know at least two people who have scarring on their face as a result. and some people won't have it done unless they are being treated by an actual doctor/dermatologist.
do your research thoroughly and then go with what you feel is right. that way if you do proceed you will know if things are not going as they should be or if your flushing your money down the toilet.
personally, i was this close to having it done on my face but some last minute research and the risks really weren't worth it. i'm doing underarms now as there is relatively little that can go wrong and the coarse, dark hair is perfect for LHR. you know, fine, downy hair is just not the right category to be treated, even if it's dark and the skin is light.
good luck! you can pm me anytime.

hey hiyano, trust me, the pain from proper laser treatment is far worse than waxing. my first treatment was on pretty low settings, in fact i was advised by experts that the aesthetician should have used higher and that the most of the hair will probably come back rather than the 30% reduction you should see from the first treatment. nevertheless it was still quite painful, i don't know how i will cope with higher settings. if you read the forum i linked above you will hear from grown men that they spent the entire treatment swearing with every zap of the laser.
legs are a huge area to be treated as well, not like the underarms which are done in 10mins.
i would really recommend waxing. my younger sister has really long coarse hair and i thought it was about time for her to start waxing. even though i have professional waxing supplies for myself i made her an appointment at a proper salon as they will do it thoroughly and hopefully it will be quicker and more painless. she was really worried about the pain too but really, it is not too bad if done at a salon, even she was suprised. waxing is so common, it really wouldn't be if it hurt that much.
so my advice is, start with waxing for now. i'm sure you will get used to the feeling after the first treatment. think about laser after that and if you are really set on it we can always talk about it some more.
your mum is fully justified about being worried about laser. not only that, but you could end up spending a lot of money over the course of the year and not seeing great results and have to end up waxing anyway.

Not at all Sahar, I did when I was first diagnosed but it only made the symptons worse, but I wasn't on any medication during or after the treatment itself.
